Her Story

About Katie

I've been in the CPG industry for almost 10 years, and it's been a journey of constant learning and growth. When I started, Amazon was a lot different than it is now. It's evolved tremendously, and I've taken on a lot of different learnings in not only marketing, but the space as a whole, and also learning different channels. As a Senior Manager of Media specifically for Amazon, my days are always changing. I'm constantly checking performance from the day before, checking in with our agency partners, and tackling my list of to-dos, which could include a go-to-market brief, an analysis on how advertising is performing, a creative analysis, internal communication between teams, or overall reporting of how everything's going. Every day's different in this role, and there's a lot of learning and growing that's constantly happening, along with a lot of communication. I'm someone that's always eager to learn and constantly evolving. I like to be very future-thinking because it's important to be thinking in the present, but you also have to anticipate what's coming next and be able to evolve. I also make sure there's a healthy work-life balance so I have the time I need outside of work to decompress and reset for the next day.

Her Interview

Ten minutes with Katie

01What do you attribute your success to?

I would say that I've always been someone that's not afraid to take risks, and I'm someone that's also not afraid to raise my hand and say, oh, I can take this on, or I can do this, I can learn this skill. I would say it's always been finding a way to better myself within the industry that I'm in, within the jobs that I'm in, and making sure that I'm taking on more opportunities. I'm not someone who settles or holds back when there's a chance to grow or contribute something new.

02What’s the best career advice you’ve ever received?

I would say never stop learning, always be curious. The industry that I'm in is constantly changing and evolving, so it's about how you can not only be better for yourself, but be better for the company as well, and make sure that you're putting your best foot forward. Analytics plays a huge role into that too, because you need to be able to measure your performance and understand what's working and what needs to improve.

03What advice would you give to young women entering your industry?

I would say never settle for the information you have, always seek to understand not just what's in front of you, but learn your industry as a whole. The only way you can be successful is if you know what's happening both with what you're doing and outside of that, because current trends are so important as well. I would say just always be curious, always be learning, and constantly be the first one to raise your hand. Don't wait for opportunities to come to you, go after them yourself.

04What are the biggest challenges or opportunities in your field right now?

I would say just how quickly the industry's moving and how fast it's changing, especially with the onset of AI. That's been changing how not only analytics is working, but also creative development and strategy. The challenge and opportunity is how can I not be afraid to take on the challenges that AI comes with, but how can I utilize AI to my advantage and actually use it to help what I'm doing on a daily basis. It's about embracing the change rather than resisting it.

05What values are most important to you in your work and personal life?

In my personal life, integrity is always important, and also being respectful. Within my work, it would be being really resilient, having the courage to take some risks, but also being someone that's able to grow and be resilient. I believe in pushing boundaries while maintaining strong ethical standards, and I value the ability to adapt and bounce back from challenges while continuing to move forward.
