Her Story

About Katie

Katie Soderberg is an Executive Recruiter specializing in Legal and Compliance at LHH, where she partners with law firms and corporate legal departments to connect top legal talent with opportunities where they can thrive. With more than four years of experience in the staffing industry, including nearly two years with LHH, Katie focuses on recruiting paralegals, legal assistants, compliance professionals, legal operations specialists, contracts professionals, and other legal support talent. Her path to recruiting was anything but linear. After studying elementary education at North Central College, she moved into corporate management and staffing, where she discovered a passion for talent acquisition through interviewing and relationship building. Her subsequent experience as a Legal Assistant and Paralegal at a small law firm gave her firsthand insight into the demands of legal teams and the qualities attorneys value in their support professionals—experience that now informs her work as a legal recruiter.

Katie’s success is rooted in her ability to understand both sides of the hiring equation. Her training at ADP strengthened her behavioral-based interviewing skills, which she now uses to help candidates prepare for interviews while also evaluating how their experience aligns with a client’s needs. She was recognized as a 2026 Rising Star within LHH’s RS US Team for her recruiting results, business development, and client service, an accomplishment that reflects the determination and perseverance she brings to her work. Katie takes particular pride in placing candidates with leading Am Law firms and helping professionals secure opportunities that advance their careers. She credits mentor Meredith Bruno with playing an instrumental role in her career development, particularly by helping her navigate an uncertain market and encouraging her to approach challenges from different perspectives. Katie’s approach is grounded in integrity, curiosity, active listening, and a genuine desire to create lasting, meaningful connections between legal professionals and the organizations they support.

Outside of recruiting, Katie’s life is centered around her family and her commitment to community. As the wife of a firefighter and a mother of two young children, she has embraced opportunities to support her husband’s career, including volunteering with a breast cancer program, while teaching her children the importance of giving back. Much of her free time is spent with her family, from gymnastics activities to church and everyday adventures with her children. Looking ahead, Katie is focused on continuing to grow her business and client relationships while making a positive impact on the legal industry. Her goal is not simply to fill positions, but to help legal teams build stronger organizations and help professionals find careers where they can grow, contribute, and feel valued.

Ten minutes with Katie

01What do you attribute your success to?

I attribute my success to determination and perseverance. I never give up. In fifth grade, I was told that I would never graduate high school on time because of my learning disabilities. I proved them wrong and was accepted to every college I applied to. That experience taught me the importance of pushing through obstacles and believing in myself. If someone tells me I cannot do something, I am determined to prove them wrong.

02What’s the best career advice you’ve ever received?

The best career advice I have received is simple: shut up and listen. We do not always have the answer, so it is important to take a step back and truly listen to different perspectives, understand what people need, and identify their pain points. Listening allows us to see situations from different angles and ultimately become more efficient and effective contributors.

03What advice would you give to young women entering your industry?

My advice is simple: do not give up. Do not let other people determine or dictate what you can or cannot do. Continue to push forward and show people why you are where you are today. Success is not always about education or credentials; it is also about what you do to set yourself apart through determination, perseverance, and a willingness to keep going.

04What are the biggest challenges or opportunities in your field right now?

One of the biggest challenges in the legal recruiting market is saturation, with many agencies claiming to have access to top talent. The challenge is connecting with clients and demonstrating the unique value we bring. What sets our team apart is our collective experience in the legal field. We understand firsthand what attorneys are looking for, which allows us to bring a deeper level of insight and understanding to the recruiting process.

05What values are most important to you in your work and personal life?

Integrity and curiosity are two of the most important values to me. I believe we have to take ownership of our mistakes and remain curious. We should ask questions and seek to understand the “why” behind things rather than simply accepting them at face value. I also believe in never settling. If a candidate is not the right fit, I want to understand why so that we can learn from the experience and improve the search.
