Her Story
About Katie
Katie Welter is the Director of Sales and Marketing for her family’s beverage distribution companies, Beerco and City Beverage, businesses that have been serving Northwest Ohio since 1948. Based in Tiffin, Ohio, Katie is part of the next generation of leadership guiding her family-owned company into the future. The company distributes major beverage brands including Anheuser-Busch, Constellation Brands, Surfside, Carbliss, and Yuengling while adapting to changing consumer preferences, including the growth of non-alcoholic beverages and ready-to-drink cocktails. Katie is passionate about maintaining the strong relationships her company has built with customers, suppliers, and the local community over decades of operation. Katie’s career in beverage distribution has been shaped by both family tradition and hands-on industry experience. Before stepping into leadership at Beerco and City Beverage, she worked for Anheuser-Busch InBev in several sales and management roles across Missouri, Oklahoma, and Alabama. These positions gave her valuable insight into wholesaler-supplier partnerships, sales strategy, brand management, and leadership development. Since returning to the family business, Katie has helped oversee sales execution, marketing, employee onboarding, customer communication, and supplier relations. She is known for her upbeat leadership style, strong customer service skills, and belief in fostering employee morale, diversity, inclusion, and mental health awareness in the workplace. Katie earned her degree in Entrepreneurship and New Business Venturing from the Miami University Farmer School of Business in 2014. During her time at Miami University, she studied abroad in Europe, participated in business and entrepreneurship programs, and was active in campus organizations. Beyond her professional role, Katie is deeply involved in community service and philanthropy. She supports organizations such as United Way, First Step, local churches, and the Alzheimer's Association. For Katie, giving back is an essential part of both her personal values and her family business legacy, a tradition she is committed to carrying forward for future generations.
Her Interview
Ten minutes with Katie
01What do you attribute your success to?
I attribute my success to having exposure in multiple departments across the industry and within my family's company, to being confident and having an outgoing personality, to showing up even when it is hard, to trusting in my team, and to always trusting in God's plan for me.
02What’s the best career advice you’ve ever received?
The best career advice I’ve ever received is to build and foster the great team that is around you, to never take that for granted.
03What advice would you give to young women entering your industry?
My advice to young women entering this industry is to be confident, have a firm handshake, and to not be afraid to learn from and lean on others.
04What are the biggest challenges or opportunities in your field right now?
The beer and alcohol business is always changing, with growth in certain areas and decline in others. Right now we are facing the decline in alcohol consumption overall, which means a surge in non-alcoholic beers and products. Conversely, we're seeing growth in the canned cocktail and ready-to-drink segment as younger consumers look to sweeter, more convenient high-alcohol brands as a regular option. Beer itself is struggling, with younger consumers' tastes shifting and with typical beer-drinking consumers aging and cutting back on their alcohol intake. All of these challenges present opportunities for us to expand our portfolio in certain areas and simplify in others.
05What values are most important to you in your work and personal life?
The most important thing to me is maintaining relationships - we have amazing partnerships with our customers and suppliers. Being involved in the community is also paramount to who my family is both personally and professionally; we give back through our financial support of nonprofits in our territories and through volunteering. Every year we hold a Thanksgiving food drive, with donations going back to local food pantries. I plan to adopt the same philanthropic mindset as an owner, just like the generations before me. In my personal life, being a mom is the most important thing to me. I come home from work, shed off all the worries and stress (what little there is), and I just play with my kiddos and husband. We talk about God, play in our woods, read books, use our imaginations, do everything to make childhood as whimsical as possible. I also enjoy hard, physical work to relieve stress and satisfy the "clean so I can relax" part of my brain. Yard work, house work, and checking off items on my personal to-do list are a great stress reliever for me. I also love exploring more of my Catholic faith, and spending time at church, praying, reading the Bible, and listening to the Hallow app.
