Her Story
About Katie Nicole
I’m overjoyed to have discovered this community of strong women inspiring other women! Being featured alongside such talented professionals aligns perfectly with my passion for supporting others, especially as a woman navigating a historically male-dominated industry.
My career at Vulcan Materials Company spans a decade and I am fortunate to have had several opportunities to grow within the organization, each new role with increasing responsibilities. I look forward to each day because no two days are the same. One day, I may be in the office dressed up, and the next day I could be in a quarry with jeans and steel-toed boots on! During my work day, which no two days are ever the same, I exercise my analytical side on my brain. I thrive in dynamic environments, turning complex data into structured systems and guiding cross-functional teams toward success. I has a multi-generational legacy as my grandfather dedicated 40 years of service to Vulcan Materials Company after retiring in 1995. When I joined Vulcan Materials Company in 2016, I learned that my boss remembered my grandfather and he even worked for my boss for 2 years before retiring!
I’ve always had an 'I can do anything' mindset. Lately, in my personal time, I've been channeling that creative energy into TikTok as an influencer, and I'm so grateful for the incredible success and community I've found there. I have met so many wonderful people who have the same values as I do and we have become great friends!
Her Interview
Ten minutes with Katie Nicole
01What do you attribute your success to?
I attribute my success to my detailed organizational skills. I started my career in human resources at St. Vincent's East hospital fresh out of high school and worked my way up without a college degree. My operational expertise was heavily shaped by my longtime manager, David Langner who was the VP of Operations and with the company for 42 years before retiring. I have benefited immensely from his guidance over the years, and am grateful he remains with the company in a consulting capacity. Being a woman with strong organizational skills in a male-dominated industry has helped me stand out and succeed.
02What advice would you give to young women entering your industry?
To young women entering this industry: own your identity and bring your authentic self to the table. Never shrink yourself or be intimidated just because you are stepping into a male-dominated room.
03What are the biggest challenges or opportunities in your field right now?
The male-dominated nature of the industry remains one of the biggest challenges. At the same time, I see real opportunity in the strong company culture and employee longevity at Vulcan, which create stable careers and meaningful mentorship for those who join.
04What values are most important to you in your work and personal life?
I am deeply committed to community service and giving back, both in my personal life and throughout my career. In my work, I pride myself on high standards of organization and professionalism, while fostering authenticity and strong loyalty to my colleagues and company. Ultimately, I believe in a balanced life where meaningful work, community impact, and dedicated family time all thrive together.
