Her Story

About Katina

Katina Zinsmeyer is the Founder and Owner of Kefi Marketing, LLC and a global marketing leader in the educational technology industry at Open LMS (part of Learning Technologies Group), bringing more than 15+ years of experience in marketing, business growth, brand strategy, and people-first leadership.

She currently serves as Senior Director of Global Marketing at Open LMS, where she leads marketing strategy and initiatives across North America, Latin America, Asia Pacific, and EMEA. Her expertise spans global growth and go-to-market strategy, brand development, demand generation, digital and paid marketing, content and communications, social media, events, partnerships, reputation management, customer engagement, and sales enablement.

Throughout her career, Katina has built and executed strategies that do more than generate results, they create meaningful connections between organizations and the people they serve. Her global experience has shaped a leadership approach grounded in understanding that while a strong vision can unite an organization, every market, customer, community, and team has unique needs. She believes the most effective leaders think globally, listen locally, and empower people closest to their markets to succeed.

That same philosophy is at the heart of how Katina leads people. She believes exceptional results begin with people who feel trusted, supported, valued, and empowered. Her leadership style is rooted in positivity, kindness, transparency, accountability, and autonomy, with an emphasis on creating high-performing environments where people feel comfortable sharing ideas, challenging the norm, taking ownership, and continuing to grow professionally.

Katina also believes kindness and high performance are not competing philosophies. Leaders can set ambitious expectations, hold themselves and their teams accountable, and deliver meaningful business results while still leading with empathy and humanity.

Her entrepreneurial journey as Founder of Kefi Marketing, LLC has further shaped that perspective. Through Kefi Marketing, Katina has partnered with small businesses, midsize organizations, and established brands across a variety of industries, developing customized marketing, growth, brand, and go-to-market strategies. She has managed significant marketing and advertising investments and developed integrated campaigns spanning digital, social media, traditional advertising, public relations, content, partnerships, and community engagement.

Earlier in her career, Katina held roles with Townsquare Media, Palm Beach Accountable Care Organization, and Independent Imaging, where she developed deep experience in marketing, sales, business development, relationship building, and organizational growth. Together, these experiences have given her a unique perspective that blends corporate leadership, entrepreneurship, global strategy, and community connection.

Katina earned an A.A.S. in Business Administration and Management from SUNY Broome Community College in Binghamton, New York, and has continued to build her career through hands-on experience, continuous learning, and a willingness to evolve alongside an ever-changing marketing landscape.

Beyond her professional accomplishments, service and community have remained important parts of Katina’s life. She has held multiple leadership positions with The Junior League of Syracuse, including Vice President of Communications, and has volunteered her marketing expertise to support animal rescue organizations and her church. Whether she is helping grow a global organization, supporting a local business, mentoring and developing members of her team, or lending her skills to a cause she believes in, Katina strives to use her experience to create a positive and lasting impact.

At the center of her career is a simple philosophy: think globally, listen locally, lead with kindness, give people the autonomy to succeed, and never lose sight of the human side of business.

For Katina, influence is not simply about the position someone holds or the results they achieve. It is about how they make people feel, the opportunities they create for others, the communities they strengthen, and the positive impact they leave behind.

Her Interview

Ten minutes with Katina

01What do you attribute your success to?

I attribute my success to hard work, dedication, continuous learning, and a strong sense of purpose. I’ve always been goal-driven and eager to grow, challenge myself, and embrace new opportunities, even when they push me outside of my comfort zone. I believe in leading by example, staying focused and consistent, and never asking of others what I wouldn’t be willing to do myself.

But success, to me, is about more than professional accomplishments. It’s about making a meaningful difference in the lives of others, helping people grow, and leaving things better than I found them. I also try to approach each day with gratitude. Taking the time to recognize and appreciate the people, opportunities, and experiences in my life keeps me grounded and reminds me of what truly matters.

02What’s the best career advice you’ve ever received?

The best career advice I have ever received is to be resilient, embrace change, and keep moving forward, even when the path isn’t easy. Challenges and setbacks are inevitable, but I’ve learned to approach them proactively, look for solutions, and never allow an obstacle to define what I’m capable of achieving.

Equally important is staying true to who you are and what makes you unique. You don’t have to change who you are to be successful. Some of the greatest strengths you bring to your career are your individual perspective, experiences, values, and the way you connect with others.

I’ve also learned that success becomes far more meaningful when you help others succeed along the way. I strive to be a mentor, an attentive listener, and someone who creates opportunities for others to grow, find their confidence, and recognize their own potential. To me, true leadership isn’t simply about how far you go, it’s about how many people you help move forward with you.

03What advice would you give to young women entering your industry?

My advice to young women entering the industry is to begin each day with a grateful heart, an open mind, and a willingness to learn. Take time to observe, listen, and understand the people and organization around you. Stay curious, trust your voice, and never lose sight of what makes you unique. Most importantly, lead with kindness, remain authentic, and look for opportunities to lift others as you grow.

04What are the biggest challenges or opportunities in your field right now?

One of the biggest opportunities and challenges in marketing and leadership today is keeping pace with the rapid evolution of AI and technology without losing the human connection. Technology can make us smarter, faster, and more efficient, but it cannot replace empathy, creativity, trust, or genuine relationships. The same is true in leadership: people want to feel heard, valued, and connected to a purpose. Embrace innovation, evolve with change, and use technology to make an impact, but never lose the human touch. That will always be our greatest advantage.

05What values are most important to you in your work and personal life?

The values that are most important to me in both my work and personal life are integrity, honesty, kindness, and empathy. I believe in treating others with respect, bringing positivity and encouragement to those around me, and leading with genuine compassion. I also believe in recognizing when others may be in need and taking the initiative to reach out, offer support, and make a meaningful difference in their lives.
