About Katrina
Katrina Concepcion serves as a medical laboratory scientist at one of the largest hospitals in Charlotte, North Carolina. She has worked in her field since graduating in 2012 and handles comprehensive and routine testing on various patient samples, including blood and body fluids, during the night shift. Originally from the Philippines, Concepcion initially pursued laboratory science to attend university in the capital city after her parents encouraged a healthcare-related field over nursing. She completed her program and board exams before relocating to the United States in 2021 to take her current position, a process that involved international exams, English proficiency testing, and obtaining a working visa. She maintains membership in the American Society for Clinical Pathology, the governing body for her profession.

01What advice would you give to young women entering your industry?
My advice is to not be picky about the work. Establish yourself first before you can demand anything, and your experience will always be your teacher and your investment.
