Katrina Tummino is a dedicated Development Professional and Grassroots Organizer committed to advancing social justice and equity through strategic fundraising, community engagement, and advocacy. Based in Cambridge, Massachusetts, she currently serves as a Development and Fundraising Specialist with Massachusetts Peace Action, where she supports initiatives promoting peace, human rights, and civic empowerment. With a strong foundation in nonprofit development, Katrina has honed her expertise in donor relations, campaign coordination, and grassroots mobilization to drive meaningful change at both local and national levels.

Before joining Massachusetts Peace Action, Katrina built her development career at Boston University, where she held multiple roles including Development Coordinator for both Special Initiatives and School Development. Her efforts supported institutional growth and engagement across departments, including the Frederick S. Pardee School of Global Studies. She also contributes her skills as a Development Consultant with the Better Future Project, aligning fundraising strategies with sustainability and climate action goals. Her passion for social impact extends globally—she has volunteered as a Writer and Editor for Imani Academy in Uganda, amplifying educational opportunities for underserved communities.

A graduate of Boston University with a Bachelor of Arts in English Literature and a concentration in French, Katrina brings a thoughtful and analytical perspective to her work in advocacy and development. She is deeply passionate about the power of grassroots organizing, a topic she explores in her published series on the history and effectiveness of social movements. Through her work, Katrina continues to champion collaboration, inclusivity, and transformative leadership in the pursuit of a more equitable and peaceful world.

I attribute my success to my unwavering drive and tenacity. My determination to overcome challenges and stay focused on my goals has been the foundation of my achievements.

What’s the best career advice you’ve ever received?

The best career advice I’ve ever received is that when you’re managing something, it’s essential to have the ability to choose your team. Success often depends on surrounding yourself with the right people and learning how to navigate relationships within the workplace effectively.

What advice would you give to young women entering your industry?

My advice to young women entering this industry is to always be aware of your environment. Understanding the dynamics around you—both professionally and personally—will help you navigate challenges, build meaningful relationships, and make confident, informed decisions that support your growth and success.

What are the biggest challenges or opportunities in your field right now?

One of the biggest challenges in my field right now is transitioning from a corporate environment to a nonprofit organization. The shift requires adapting to different structures, priorities, and resource limitations. However, with every challenge comes opportunity—there is always room to evolve, innovate, and make a meaningful impact in new and transformative ways.

The most important values to me, both in my work and personal life, are being part of a driven, purpose-oriented environment and upholding equity for all people. I believe in working hard to achieve meaningful goals while ensuring that fairness, inclusion, and respect guide every decision and interaction.
