Her Story

About Katrinna

I have been working in education for 21 years, and it has been a journey aligned with my experience and background. Throughout my career, I have worked in different variations of counseling, but always with youth and children. Currently, I support school counselors primarily, helping them with compliance and procedures, federal and state guidelines and procedures for students that are classified in certain special populations to make sure they have academic and non-academic supports. I have been with my current organization for 12 years. I am proud of the work I am doing now - many of the procedures we have in place, I developed. Through my work, along with collaboration with other outside agencies, we were able to increase our graduation rate for a specific population of students in foster care, and I am definitely pleased with that outcome. What I love most about my job is advocating for populations that have challenges, and that others might kind of give up on. I like advocating and trying to troubleshoot to try to get them back on a solid path for success.

Her Interview

Ten minutes with Katrinna

01What do you attribute your success to?

I think just perseverance. I worked with some amazing professionals who have kind of taught me a lot along the way. You know, I just try to glean what I can from everyone I encounter.

02What advice would you give to young women entering your industry?

Try to learn as much as they can, you know, take advantage of professional development opportunities, find maybe a couple of mentors who have maybe started in their area, but also grown and evolved as an educator. I think those would be the primary things.
