Her Story

About Katty

Katty Diaz is a Senior Account Executive at ePlus Inc., with nearly three decades of experience in IT, enterprise sales, and client relationship management. She began her career in 1999 on Wall Street in an entry-level administrative support role and steadily advanced across multiple departments, including services and accounting, where she gained early exposure to IT operations and sales functions. Over time, her interest in technology and client engagement evolved into a long-term career in technology sales. Katty’s transition into sales marked a defining moment in her professional journey. Initially hesitant about the field, she was encouraged by leadership who recognized her authenticity, transparency, and natural ability to build trust with others. Accepting the opportunity on the condition that she could return to accounting if it was not the right fit, she quickly discovered a strong alignment with the role. Her first successful deal solidified her passion for the profession, reinforcing her belief that effective sales are rooted in understanding people, solving real problems, and connecting the right experts to the right needs. For the past 9 years at ePlus, Katty has served as a trusted connector between clients and technology solutions, focusing on listening deeply to customer challenges and aligning them with the right expertise. She is known for her relationship-driven approach, prioritizing long-term trust over transactional outcomes and maintaining a strong attention to personal detail in her client interactions. With the rapid evolution of the industry—including advancements in AI, cloud computing, and digital transformation—she continues to adapt and grow, positioning herself as a trusted advisor who is committed to delivering meaningful business impact through empathy, integrity, and customer-first thinking.

Ten minutes with Katty

01What do you attribute your success to?

I attribute my success to all of the above, hard work, dedication, family, and as I always say: first God, then the people He has placed in my life. After that, I just work hard, show up, and keep going.

But if I'm being honest, what truly drives me is the feeling I get from building relationships and connecting people. There is something incredibly powerful about bringing people together, helping them see possibilities, and inspiring them to believe in themselves. That gives me a level of fulfillment that no title, or award, ever could. The relationships I've built, the trust I've earned, and the genuine connections I've made have been the foundation of my success.

Nothing makes me happier than knowing I've helped someone, whether that's a customer, a colleague, a friend, or a family member. Mentoring, encouraging, connecting, and empowering others is what fuels me. Seeing people grow, succeed, and gain confidence in themselves gives me a high that is hard to describe.

"A mentor of mine, who also happens to be a longtime customer, once said something that has always stuck with me: 'The difference is that you care, and your authenticity shines through.' To me, that's one of the greatest compliments I've ever received." 💙

02What’s the best career advice you’ve ever received?

The best career advice I've ever received is beautifully simple: believe in yourself, because anything is possible. If more people truly believed in themselves, this world would be such a better place. There is so much talent out there, but people just don't have the confidence because of how they grew up or where they came from. It doesn't matter what nationality or background you have - it's all about having that confidence to know that anything is possible and that you've got this. I love mentoring people to believe in themselves because we need so much more of that in the world. When you establish that foundation of self-belief, you eliminate your own limitations and open the door to achieving things others might see as completely out of reach.

03What advice would you give to young women entering your industry?

My advice to young women entering this industry is simple: believe in yourself, take the chance, and don't be afraid to learn. Ask questions, stay curious, and absorb as much knowledge as you can because education, in any field, is power. And trust me, I'm reminding myself of that every day too!

But the biggest piece of advice I would give anyone—especially in sales—is to genuinely care. Care about the person sitting across from you. Take the time to understand the challenges they're facing and what they're truly trying to accomplish. Be a trusted advisor, not just a vendor.

I've always believed that if you focus on helping people, solving problems, and doing what's right for the customer, everything else will follow. Don't lead with dollars and cents; lead with value, trust, and relationships. The strongest partnerships are built over time, and when your customers know you truly care about their success, that's when the magic happens.

For me, it's always been about the long-term relationship and the outcome for the customer. That's where the real reward is.

04What are the biggest challenges or opportunities in your field right now?

One of the biggest challenges in my field right now is the amount of competition. There are so many companies, solutions, and people competing for the same opportunities. But honestly, I also see that as one of the greatest opportunities.

Because this industry is so large and constantly evolving, there is room for people who are willing to take a chance on themselves. There are endless opportunities to learn, grow, build relationships, and create a successful career. I think many people have a misconception about sales and don't realize how rewarding it can be.

To me, sales isn't about convincing people to buy something. It's about building trust, solving problems, and creating meaningful connections. The competition pushes us to be better, more innovative, and more customer-focused.

If you're willing to work hard, stay authentic, and genuinely care about helping others, there is tremendous opportunity in this field. The market is big enough for all of us to succeed, and that's what makes it such an exciting industry to be a part of.

05What values are most important to you in your work and personal life?

If there's one thing I value above all else, it's my word. More than titles, success, or anything material, my word is everything to me. Life can change in an instant, you can lose a job, relationships can change, and circumstances can come and go. But the one thing no one can ever take away from you is your integrity.

I've always believed that if you give your word, you keep it. If you make a promise, you do everything in your power to honor it. It may sound old-fashioned, but it's a value that has guided me my entire life.

I have two amazing adult children, and they couldn't be more different. A friend once asked them what the most important lesson I taught them was. Without talking to each other, they both gave the same answer: "Our mom always told us that your word is everything. If you promise something, keep it."

That meant the world to me because it showed me they were listening all those years. At the end of the day, people may forget what you said or what you did, but they will remember whether they could trust you. Your word is your reputation, your character, and your legacy. And that's something worth protecting.
