Her Story

About Katya

Katya Nelipovich is an Acquisitions Program Manager with the United States Air Force, where she manages multiple defense acquisition programs focused on upgrading and sustaining life-critical ejection seat systems for military aircraft. In this role, she oversees program planning, coordination, and execution to ensure mission readiness and enhance pilot safety across a variety of platforms. Beyond her technical responsibilities, she is an active participant in the Air Force's peer-to-peer mental health support program, helping connect fellow service members with appropriate resources and fostering a culture of resilience and well-being.

Originally from Belarus, Katya earned a Bachelor of Psychology from Belarusian State University before relocating to the United States to pursue new opportunities. Her professional journey began in healthcare, where she held patient care coordination and supervisory roles while also teaching Russian language courses for more than a decade. She later enlisted in the United States Air Force and served six years in aerospace medical services as a Licensed Practical Nurse (LPN), including emergency room assignments. Her exceptional performance and leadership earned her selection to Officer Training School on her first application, allowing her to transition from enlisted medical service to a commissioned officer and Acquisitions Program Manager.

Katya's career reflects a unique combination of healthcare, psychology, education, and defense acquisitions, giving her a broad perspective on leadership, mission support, and service to others. She is passionate about mentoring fellow service members, promoting mental health awareness, and encouraging young women to pursue ambitious goals despite challenges. Looking ahead, she plans to continue serving in the Air Force while pursuing her long-term entrepreneurial vision of opening a coffee shop and fitness center, combining her interests in wellness, community, and coffee after completing her military career.

Her Interview

Ten minutes with Katya

01What do you attribute your success to?

I attribute my success to the sacrifices I made and the challenges I overcame to build a new life in this country. Remembering what I left behind continues to motivate me to work hard, stay resilient, and make the most of every opportunity. My greatest inspiration is the hope of reuniting with my parents, giving them the comfortable and happy retirement they deserve, and being closer to them again one day.

02What advice would you give to young women entering your industry?

My advice would be is to think about women who don't have the opportunities, women who are born and raised and live in the countries where they have all these desires and dreams but unfortunately the circumstances are stopping them from achieving those dreams. And think about where you are from that perspective more, and yeah. Just go for it. Because what's the worst that can happen? Someone says no to you?
