Her Story

About Kavitha

I have been teaching pre-K in a private school for eight years. I earned my Bachelor's of Science in India and received early education training there, advancing to center coordinator before moving to the US with my family. Here I completed my CDA and Emerging Leadership Training, and I help run the school smoothly while teaching a class of 22 children. I love seeing young minds learn and grow every day.

01What’s the best career advice you’ve ever received?

My dad told me to do your work, do your karma right, and whatever goes around comes around. Be fruitful for what you're working for and you will see the results. I tell the kids to be nice because somebody else is gonna be nice to you, and if you're not doing your work right there are consequences.

02What advice would you give to young women entering your industry?

You have to love this job with your heart and soul. You cannot be just doing it as a job that's gonna pay your bills. If you are with the young minds, young little ones, you have to love what you're doing, otherwise this job is not for you.

03What are the biggest challenges or opportunities in your field right now?

The biggest challenge is when you are not trained to handle special ed kids, yet they have to be part of our classroom and we must adapt the curriculum for them. The biggest opportunity is you get to learn and grow, every day is different, and you see a lot of people with different mentalities, understanding how early education works here in America.

04What values are most important to you in your work and personal life?

Integrity, being honest, and showing up on time every day. Being there when you're needed for working.
