Her Interview
Ten minutes with Kawaljit
01What do you attribute your success to?
I attribute my success to a combination of compassion, perseverance, and the professional skills I have developed throughout my career. My experience in marketing, business strategy, and leadership helped me transform my passion for animal welfare into a growing nonprofit organization. These skills allowed me to build a strong volunteer network, raise awareness, engage supporters, and turn ideas into meaningful action. However, I believe this journey has only just begun. My goal is to expand the impact I have created in my home country and contribute to animal welfare on a global scale.
02What advice would you give to young women entering your industry?
My advice to young women entering the nonprofit sector is to begin with a cause they genuinely care about. Meaningful work starts with compassion, but building a lasting impact also requires courage, consistency, and strong leadership. Do not wait until everything is perfect, and do not let fear of other people’s opinions stop you. Take the first step, continue learning, and use your unique skills to support your mission. When you lead with kindness, authenticity, and determination, you will find people who believe in your vision and are willing to support you. Start where you are, use what you have, and trust that even one small action can grow into meaningful change.
03What are the biggest challenges or opportunities in your field right now?
One of the biggest challenges in the nonprofit and animal-welfare sector is securing consistent funding. In the beginning, it was difficult to earn people’s trust and convince them that their donations would be used responsibly to create a meaningful impact. Building that credibility required transparency, consistency, and visible results. Over time, as people saw our work and the animals we were helping, their confidence grew and we received greater support.
This challenge also became one of our greatest opportunities. It allowed us to build genuine relationships with donors, volunteers, veterinarians, and community members who believed in our mission. Despite the initial difficulties, it has been a deeply rewarding journey and has shown me that trust, compassion, and perseverance can turn a small initiative into a growing movement.
04What values are most important to you in your work and personal life?
The values that matter most to me are kindness and empathy. I believe kindness should guide how we treat both people and animals, especially those who are vulnerable or unable to speak for themselves. In my professional and personal life, I try to lead with compassion, understand the experiences of others, and offer support whenever I can. For me, true success is not defined only by personal achievements, but by the positive impact we create in the lives of others. Even a small act of kindness can inspire meaningful and lasting change.
