About Kay
Kay Aubrey-Chimene is an internationally recognized Certified Light Therapy Educator, professional speaker, entrepreneur, and holistic health advocate whose work is dedicated to helping people and animals achieve optimal wellness through the therapeutic power of light. As the Founder and Executive Director of the Photonic Therapy Institute (PTI), she has spent decades educating practitioners, animal owners, and wellness professionals on photobiomodulation and photopuncture, innovative approaches that combine targeted light therapy with holistic healing principles. Guided by her belief that true health is non-species specific, Kay has built a career empowering individuals to take an active role in their own well-being and the well-being of the animals they care for.
Kay’s path to becoming a leader in light therapy began through personal adversity and a life-changing experience with her horse, Sport. In her 30s, she struggled with severe arthritis, osteoporosis, chronic allergies, and persistent health challenges that left her feeling far older than her years. Although she had originally planned to become a veterinarian, life led her in a different direction. A friend encouraged her to return to horseback riding, and she purchased Sport, who soon became her lifeline. During their first endurance race, Sport suffered devastating injuries to both front suspensory ligaments, and veterinarians recommended euthanasia. Determined to find another way, Kay worked with a holistic veterinarian who introduced her to light therapy wraps. The remarkable recovery that followed allowed Sport to return to endurance riding, ultimately covering thousands of miles and remaining an active part of her life decades later. Through the process of learning how to heal her horse, Kay discovered how to heal herself. Today, in her mid-60s, she enjoys better health than she did in her 30s and credits much of her transformation to light therapy, improved nutrition, detoxification, proper mineralization, exercise, and a commitment to holistic living.
A graduate of the University of Arizona with a Bachelor’s degree in Animal Health Sciences, Kay has also completed graduate studies in biochemistry and evolutionary behavior. Her extensive professional training includes certifications in light therapy instruction, acupressure, Reiki, holistic nutrition, and detoxification techniques. In addition to leading PTI, she owns and operates Grand Adventures Ranch, a holistic animal wellness center, and is a respected educator, consultant, and speaker sought after by audiences around the world. Currently completing a book that shares her knowledge and experiences, Kay remains passionate about educating others on natural approaches to health and self-empowerment. Outside of her professional endeavors, she enjoys spending time with her six horses, participating in dog shows, and traveling extensively around the world, experiences that continue to inspire her lifelong commitment to learning, wellness, and service.

Ten minutes with Kay
01What do you attribute your success to?
I attribute my success to an unwavering sense of curiosity and a lifelong commitment to learning. I have always been driven to ask questions, seek deeper understanding, and explore new ideas and possibilities. Equally important is my passion for teaching and empowering others by sharing knowledge that can positively impact their lives. I believe that treating people with kindness, respect, and compassion creates meaningful connections and opportunities for growth. Throughout my career, I have remained focused on making a difference, bringing positivity to those around me, and helping others achieve better outcomes, which has been both professionally rewarding and personally fulfilling.
02What’s the best career advice you’ve ever received?
The best career advice I’ve ever received is to not be afraid to put myself out there. Stepping forward, even when it feels uncomfortable, creates opportunities for growth, connection, and learning that would otherwise not be possible. I’ve also learned that the more I know, the more I grow—continuous learning expands not only my knowledge but also my perspective and ability to serve others effectively. Together, these principles have guided me to stay open, curious, and willing to take meaningful risks in both my personal and professional life.
03What advice would you give to young women entering your industry?
The best advice I would give to young women entering my field is to focus on balance, organization, and strong time management, while remaining grounded in active listening and continuous learning. Staying organized and managing your time effectively creates the structure needed to handle multiple responsibilities with confidence and clarity. Equally important is the ability to truly listen to clients, colleagues, and the needs of those you serve because understanding others is the foundation of meaningful impact. Finally, lead by example in everything you do, demonstrating integrity, consistency, and professionalism, as your actions will always speak louder than your words.
04What are the biggest challenges or opportunities in your field right now?
The biggest challenges and opportunities in my field right now center around education, accessibility, and responsible adoption of photobiomodulation. I empower people to regain vibrant health using light as a supportive tool, and one of the ongoing challenges is helping others understand that low-level light therapy is not a quick fix, but a science-informed modality that requires consistency, proper application, and realistic expectations. At the same time, there is tremendous opportunity as awareness continues to grow that every species can benefit from the therapeutic applications of light therapy, also known as photobiomodulation. As research expands and more practitioners explore integrative approaches to wellness, there is a growing shift toward non-invasive, drug-free options that support the body’s natural processes. This creates an exciting space for education, innovation, and broader acceptance of light-based therapies in both human and animal health.
05What values are most important to you in your work and personal life?
The values most important to me in both my work and personal life are authentic leadership and living with a clear sense of purpose. I believe success is not defined by ease or perfection, but by perseverance never quitting and continuing to move forward even through challenges. I strive to remain open, honest, and mindful of others in all interactions, recognizing that integrity and compassion are essential to meaningful relationships and lasting impact. These values guide how I lead, how I serve, and how I continue to grow personally and professionally.
