About Kay
Kay Cannon is a hospitality professional with close to 12 years of experience spanning property management, community management, and event planning. She began her career in property management, starting as a front desk associate and advancing to community manager. She later managed a co-working space in Alexandria, Virginia, for a couple of years following the COVID-19 pandemic, where she focused on outreach, marketing, and hosting events to reengage occupants. Currently, Kay serves as Hospitality Manager at the Friends Committee on National Legislation, overseeing a lodging house on Capitol Hill that accommodates up to 40 guests and hosts workshops centered on civic engagement. In addition to her role at FCNL, she operates her own event planning company, Capable K Events, through which she has organized successful events highlighting local businesses and Black women entrepreneurs in the DC, Maryland, and Virginia area. Kay holds an Accredited Residential Manager License and is a member of the Institute of Real Estate Management. She attributes her professional success to her willingness to learn, openness to new knowledge, and strong customer service orientation.

01What do you attribute your success to?
Definitely my willingness to learn. I am super open to taking in knowledge, speaking to people. In hospitality, you have to be a people person, you have to be customer service driven. So I think the ability that I have to be open, and my willingness to learn has been key for my success.
