Her Interview

Ten minutes with Kayanna

01What do you attribute your success to?

I would say it's always learning more and networking. Approach every opportunity and conversation with confidence and you’ll get a seat at the table every time. And the more connections you have, the easier it is to progress in your career.

02What’s the best career advice you’ve ever received?

One of the best pieces of career advice I’ve received is that success often requires working harder than expected and staying committed to excellence regardless of the challenges. I’ve also learned the importance of remaining professional, not taking setbacks personally, and understanding how to navigate workplace dynamics with emotional intelligence and resilience.

03What advice would you give to young women entering your industry?

Remember that you're always a student, and with that not only do you study to become better at your craft, but you study the competition, you study your boss, your coworkers. You really grow and learn from that, and better yourself without having to have all of their experience up front.

04What are the biggest challenges or opportunities in your field right now?

Social media, because a lot of women can actually start their own business with ease because of it. With the way that user-generated content is going. Being it’s a primary marketing tool for today and will continue to be; knowing how to do influencer marketing well, knowing how to talk to people, reach out, connect and negotiate with them to land deals. That’s probably one of the biggest underrated things right now.

05What values are most important to you in your work and personal life?

Figuring out something that relaxes you, because it's a stressful industry. There's many stressful industries, but learning how to handle the stress, how to communicate better and less emotionally. For me, that's massages and, saunas. Figuring out what that is for you is always going to be the best thing, and you need to make it a part of your routine.
