About Kayla
Kayla Andra is a science teacher and program director for a wildlife nonprofit. She holds a master's degree in Applied Ocean Science and Marine Biology, which she earned in 2021 after living and studying in South Africa for three years. Her background includes marine biology research on white shark behavior and small-scale fishing communities, coral restoration efforts in Indonesia where she lived for two years, and a focus on social-ecological systems. She teaches science online at Prisma school and directs programs at the Wildlife Restoration Foundation, combining her expertise in marine biology, wildlife conservation, and environmental science education. She attributes her success to an undying mission for joy and a supportive family system. Her advice to young women is that everything is figureoutable, inspired by Marie Forleo, which helps tackle challenges like climate change.

01What do you attribute your success to?
I would say the one thing that keeps me going is just kind of this undying mission for joy. Joy definitely keeps me going and whatever I do to bring joy to me and those around me. I definitely have a family system that is so encouraging and supportive.
02What advice would you give to young women entering your industry?
The one thing that has stuck with me is I'm a big fan of Marie Forleo. She has this whole slogan on the concept of everything is figureoutable. That applies to anyone in any field but particularly in my field in education and environmental science and tackling these huge problems like climate change.
03What values are most important to you in your work and personal life?
Number one is joy. I think it can back you through hard times, it just fuels a good life for a person no matter what problem they're tackling or what purpose that they have.
