Kayla Bosco is the Assistant Director of Digital Engagement and Outreach at the Syracuse University Alumni Association, where she leads innovative digital and social media strategies to connect alumni and constituents worldwide. With more than a decade of experience in marketing and communications, her career has been defined by evolution, curiosity, and a willingness to pivot with purpose. Kayla specializes in digital communications and social media, particularly within higher education an environment where storytelling, engagement, and innovation intersect daily. In her current role, she manages digital engagement initiatives with an increasing focus on artificial intelligence, helping Syracuse alumni connect, share, and grow together while supporting the university’s advancement efforts.

Kayla’s professional journey began in sports marketing, where she held roles at Providence College, Kansas State University, the University of Memphis, and the University of Houston, managing promotions, student engagement, and social media strategy for collegiate athletics. Her early experiences taught her to think creatively under pressure, connect with diverse audiences, and execute campaigns that energized entire campuses. After transitioning to agency work at Integrate in Houston, she broadened her expertise in brand storytelling and digital strategy, which prepared her for her long-term career in higher education communications. Since joining Syracuse University in 2017, Kayla has progressed from managing digital strategy for the College of Arts and Sciences to overseeing the university’s flagship social media channels and, ultimately, her current leadership role in alumni engagement.

A first-generation college graduate, Kayla brings a unique perspective to every role she holds, emphasizing access, mentorship, and inclusion. She is recognized for her expertise in social media, digital marketing, and community engagement, and she is intentional about creating content that reflects diverse voices and lived experiences. Among her professional honors, she spoke on a panel at a large virtual Social Media Summit, sharing insights on campus content partnerships during a period of unprecedented change. Beyond her professional responsibilities, she supports organizations such as the Girl Scouts and continues to expand her knowledge of fundraising and advancement within higher education. Kayla’s career reflects a commitment to learning, adaptability, and helping institutions connect authentically with their communities because she believes the most impactful communication doesn’t just inform, it builds belonging.

What are the biggest challenges or opportunities in your field right now?

The digital and social media landscape evolves rapidly; AI is becoming part of roles and was a factor in her job choice. Fundraising and advancement in higher education present learning opportunities. The collegiate-sports marketing environment can include heavy hours and uneven pay.
