Her Story
About Kayla
I've been working in my field for about 4 years now, and I've been in my current role for the past 2 years. I mainly do event planning and management, which is what I went to school for at university, and then I realized I had a knack for more of the admin side. I was really blessed to get the role I'm currently in because it lets me mix the two. A typical day in my role is never the same - I manage a couple of folks' calendars, their expenses, their travel, all the admin side of things. Their days are never the same, so I would say it's a lot of jigsaw puzzling and Tetris, playing Tetris with the calendar, being able to move something at a moment's notice. A lot of thought has to go into it, knowing the priorities of your execs. In addition to admin stuff, I also help with the team's internal culture and event planning. I help with client meetings and events, but mainly where I get to feed that skill set is with the internal events. We do an annual Halloween party that the team absolutely loves with prizes and costume contests. We'll do health and wellness activities like a cycle bar class for the team to enjoy after work, wine tastings, anything under the moon really. The most recent event I did was a mini golf experience for our spring fling. I am fully remote - I work in Arizona, but my team is based in New York. Having the opportunity to show that I am able to make a contribution to that culture while being fully remote still is a big confidence booster. When I do get to visit and see everybody, I get to see that culture come to life. Our client is Walmart, so we are very busy all year long, and they work very hard at what they do.

01What values are most important to you in your work and personal life?
Company culture is extremely important to me in job searching, and I know that it plays a big part in other people's job searches. It really does matter. It is important to know that your team can work hard and also play hard and enjoy themselves and appreciate each other and their hard work and celebrate your wins, celebrate your successes together. My team works very hard at what they do, and I think that my favorite thing is to just plan these events for them and give them those opportunities to celebrate their wins. Building that culture within my team has been such an exciting thing to witness because that is extremely meaningful to me.
