Her Interview
Ten minutes with Kayla
01What do you attribute your success to?
I attribute my success to hard work, perseverance, adaptability, and the willingness to learn new things. My years in customer service and restaurant management taught me leadership, accountability, and how to handle challenges under pressure. I used those experiences as motivation to pursue entrepreneurship through online reselling, learning every aspect of the business from sourcing and researching products to creating listings and managing multiple storefronts. I believe consistency, patience, and understanding customer needs are essential to long-term success. My goal is to continue growing my business, building lasting customer relationships, and creating a sustainable future that gives me greater independence and control over my time.
02What’s the best career advice you’ve ever received?
The best advice I’ve learned is to believe in myself, stay independent, and remain open to learning from others. My fiancé has been my biggest supporter, encouraging me to pursue entrepreneurship and helping me navigate the technical side of building my online business. I’ve also learned a great deal from eBay resources and reseller communities where people share practical knowledge and experiences. I believe success comes from taking initiative, accepting support from those who genuinely want to see you grow, and consistently working toward your goals.
03What advice would you give to young women entering your industry?
My advice to young women entering online reselling is to be cautious of self-proclaimed gurus and scammers who promise success for a fee. There are many free resources and communities where you can learn without spending money on expensive coaching. Stay informed about current market trends, understand what products are selling, and plan ahead for seasonal holidays. Give yourself time to learn the business and build confidence before making significant financial investments. Patience, research, and consistency are essential to long-term success.
04What are the biggest challenges or opportunities in your field right now?
One of the biggest challenges in online reselling is learning every aspect of the business, from sourcing and researching products to pricing, listing, and managing inventory across multiple storefronts. Understanding market trends, anticipating seasonal demand, and knowing when to invest more money also require patience and experience. However, these challenges create opportunities to grow by improving business strategies, expanding inventory, and building customer loyalty through discounts and excellent service. I’ve learned the importance of using free educational resources, learning from other sellers, and making informed decisions. As I gain experience, my goal is to grow my inventory, increase sales, and build a sustainable business.
05What values are most important to you in your work and personal life?
The values most important to me are independence, perseverance, accountability, and continuous learning. I believe in taking ownership of my decisions and working consistently toward my goals, even when progress takes time. As an entrepreneur, I value adaptability, resourcefulness, and the willingness to learn from experience and respond to changing market trends. I also believe in using available resources wisely and being cautious of people who promise success without genuine support. Ultimately, I want to build a sustainable business that reflects my vision, gives me greater control over my time, and allows me to define success on my own terms.
