About Kayla
Kayla Harley is a certified somatic wellness practitioner with a decade of experience supporting mental health and wellbeing through holistic modalities. She founded her private practice, The Bee Body Marketplace, eight years ago and partners with Onyx Therapy Group while serving as one of the lead integrative wellness practitioners for the Boris L. Henson Foundation in the Washington, D.C. metropolitan area. A former professional dancer who performed on Broadway and concert stages, Harley earned her training at Dominican University of California and holds additional credentials as a full-spectrum doula with an emphasis on postpartum care. Her expertise encompasses breathwork, dance therapy, and the specialized movement techniques of gyrotonic and gyrokinesis, which she integrates to help clients, particularly corporate women and members of the Black and Brown community, release tension and trauma stored in the body. Harley attributes her success to her faith and remains committed to breaking stigmas around mental health support while expanding access to somatic practices.
Her Interview
Ten minutes with Kayla
01What do you attribute your success to?
My faith. Gotta have faith. And sometimes I don't always have a strong support system, so that's where faith comes in.
02What advice would you give to young women entering your industry?
Preservation is key. Those moments of self-care, rest, all of these things are productive, and the more you invest in yourself, the more clarity you have in making decisions for your life and your career. So, don't skip that. Include that just as much as you would include everything else, because it's a necessary part of your growth.
03What are the biggest challenges or opportunities in your field right now?
Challenges include access to funding and budget cuts affecting programs and private care affordability. Opportunities include increased investment in wellness post-pandemic, breaking the stigma around mental health, more men seeking support, greater visibility in media and TV, and younger generations centering care and well-being in their decisions. Older generations are also slowly recognizing the value beyond money, affecting family and communities.
