Her Story
About Kaylin
Kaylin Diaz serves as an Assistant Community Association Manager in downtown Miami, Florida, where she has spent four years in community association management following five years in development. She began her professional journey working in accounting for a developer at Miami World Center, participating in teams that opened properties and turned over associations to boards and management companies. This experience sparked her interest in navigating the association world more directly, leading her to obtain her Community Association Manager's license. Diaz finds satisfaction in maintaining properties and building relationships with residents, vendors, and developers on new projects. She holds a bachelor's degree in political science from Florida International University, earned in 2020, and a master's in business administration with a minor in global/international business from the same institution, completed in 2023. Currently, she is finalizing requirements for her real estate license in Florida. Outside of her professional roles, Diaz participates in local community initiatives such as beach cleanups and food distribution at Camilla's House homeless shelter. She attributes her success to her parents and grandparents, who immigrated from Cuba in the 1980s seeking a better life, and she draws on advice from a previous boss to remain true to herself without dimming her light in any situation.
Her Interview
Ten minutes with Kaylin
01What do you attribute your success to?
I definitely attribute my success to my parents and my grandparents. I definitely would not be where I'm at today without them pushing me to be to reach my full potential, and to give me the opportunities to do that. My parents and my grandparents are from Cuba. And they came here searching for a better life back in the 80s, and all I've tried to do is just follow in their footsteps and make the American dream happen for them.
02What’s the best career advice you’ve ever received?
This is from my previous boss, she told me to never dim my light in any situation that I'm in, whether professional or personal, to always be true to myself, and it would show in my work and with the relationships I build with people. I've never strayed from that. I've always been myself and honest, and it's taken me far.
03What advice would you give to young women entering your industry?
Not to be scared that it's a male-dominated field, that usually our voices are silenced by the majority of them that are in a room, but if we know we have to work harder to stand out. The work is worth it. And we will eventually be the majority in this field. Not to be scared of it, and to move forward, and to trust in their abilities, and to keep it going, keep it pushing.
04What are the biggest challenges or opportunities in your field right now?
The biggest challenges would probably be lack of opportunities in the Miami area. There aren't that many opportunities for up-and-coming people in this field right now because there are a lot of people that are licensed to be managers, and a lot of people hire within their company. But there's still so many opportunities. It's just finding the right place and the right company. I don't think that people should limit themselves to just the big name brands or corporations that there are here in Miami. There's a lot of new companies that are coming out, developers, self-managing, different opportunities that are outside of the big three management companies.
05What values are most important to you in your work and personal life?
I think community, and a lot of them transfer from personal to professional. I would say community, honesty, trust, and communication are very important.
