Her design work has received an honorable mention in the Salute Design Competition, second place in the Artopex Design Competition, and a feature in her college's Bicentennial Magazine. Passionate about healthcare interior design and serving others, Gibbs volunteers with Palmer Home for Children, Operation Christmas Child, and the DeSoto Dream Center, and she credits her achievements to her Christian faith.
Her Interview
Ten minutes with Keeley
01What do you attribute your success to?
My success comes from my faith. I am a Christian and believe the whole reason I'm here alive and breathing today is because of my Lord and Savior Jesus. Without him I would not be breathing or living right now. I want to use the gifts and skills he's blessed me with to serve others, particularly through healthcare interior design projects like children's hospitals.
02What’s the best career advice you’ve ever received?
My professors have given me the best advice by challenging us to explore all options with our degree and not just settle for working at an architecture firm in an office. They encouraged looking into construction or project management, sales rep roles, or working for a furniture dealer to be actively out in the field.
03What advice would you give to young women entering your industry?
Definitely pursue it even if you think it's impossible. Get lots of shadowing and internship experience whether paid or not. Step out into the workplace and learn from professionals. The more you practice and put yourself out there the more you will love it.
04What values are most important to you in your work and personal life?
Communication and integrity are essential because without good communication projects won't succeed. Humility is important to learn from experienced professionals. Standing strong and confident as women in male-dominant fields like architecture and construction is crucial.
