About Keena
Keena Bromon is an experienced payroll and human resources professional with more than 25 years of industry experience. She has served as Payroll Manager at Porter Hedges LLP since 2002, overseeing payroll operations and supporting employee benefits, financial reporting, and HR functions. Her career began in 1998 with Stewart Title Guarantee Company, where she worked as a Payroll Processor and Human Resources Assistant before advancing into her current leadership role.
Keena combines extensive practical experience with a strong commitment to professional development. She earned a Bachelor’s degree in Business from the University of Houston in 2017 while balancing multiple jobs and family responsibilities, followed by an MBA from Baylor University in 2020. She is currently pursuing a Doctorate in Business Administration and Management at the University of Houston, reflecting her dedication to continued learning and leadership growth.
Beyond her professional and academic pursuits, Keena is passionate about creativity and community involvement. She enjoys arts, crafts, and decorating, while also supporting charitable organizations such as St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital. Looking ahead, she is interested in advancing toward a compensation director or total rewards leadership role and exploring how emerging technologies, including AI, can be responsibly applied within payroll while maintaining the accuracy and reliability essential to the profession.

01What do you attribute your success to?
I attribute my success to being able to do the work and being capable even before having a degrees behind my name. Being a single mother while working multiple jobs and obtaining my degrees motivated me to persevere despite life challenges.
02What’s the best career advice you’ve ever received?
You never know how strong you are until being strong is the only choice you have. We never know how much we're capable of until we're put in a position. God puts us in those positions specifically to show us not to doubt ourselves. Always keep putting one foot in front of the other, and as long as you do it the right way, things will come full circle. I am the storm.
03What advice would you give to young women entering your industry?
Stay the course & don't take no for an answer. Hard work will always be rewarded. Don't compare yourself to others. Be diligent, do your best at everything because you never know who's watching and always put your best foot forward.
04What are the biggest challenges or opportunities in your field right now?
The biggest challenge and opportunity in my field is AI. Payroll is hands-on and automating it is not always productive; accuracy over efficiency. Biggest opportunity is growing into a compensation director role overseeing total rewards.
05What values are most important to you in your work and personal life?
Hard work is the most important value to me in my work and personal life. There are two types of people in the world, ones that make it happen and ones that make excuses.
