Her Interview
Ten minutes with Keisha
01What do you attribute your success to?
I attribute much of my success to genuine connection, continuous learning, and a willingness to serve. I’ve never viewed success as something achieved alone. It has been shaped by the people who have poured into me, the relationships I’ve intentionally built, and my willingness to step into rooms ready to contribute and learn.
I’ve also learned to embrace change. Every chapter of my career has required me to grow into a new version of myself, take risks, and sometimes move forward before I felt completely ready.
Most importantly, I believe in creating value wherever I am. When you focus on serving people well, developing others, and leaving every space better than you found it, success becomes bigger than an individual accomplishment, it becomes impact.
02What’s the best career advice you’ve ever received?
The best career advice I have received is that readiness does not require knowing everything. Leadership often requires making informed decisions, stepping into unfamiliar spaces, and trusting your ability to navigate what comes next.
That perspective changed how I approach opportunity.
The strongest leaders are not those who know everything. They are those who know how to listen, ask the right questions, leverage the expertise around them, adapt when necessary, and continue moving forward with intention.
I have learned to trust the experience I bring to the table while remaining committed to becoming the leader the next opportunity requires.
03What advice would you give to young women entering your industry?
Never settle. Your career trajectory can change when you least expect it, and opportunities may take you in directions you could not have anticipated. Stay open to growth, remain willing to learn, and do not limit yourself based on where you think your career should go. Be prepared to recognize opportunities and allow yourself the flexibility to pursue them.
04What are the biggest challenges or opportunities in your field right now?
One of the biggest challenges right now is engagement. People have more demands on their time, more ways to access information, and higher expectations for what they receive from an organization. For associations especially, simply offering events, education, and networking isn’t enough anymore. Members need to understand the value of participating.
At the same time, that creates a major opportunity. Organizations that intentionally connect people, resources, education, advocacy, and opportunities can become indispensable to the communities they serve. Technology can make communication and operations more efficient, but the human connection is still what builds trust and keeps people engaged.
05What values are most important to you in your work and personal life?
Connection, authenticity, inclusion, and purpose are the values that are most important to me in both my professional and personal life. I believe meaningful connections can create opportunities for people and organizations, while authenticity allows those relationships to be genuine and lasting. Inclusion ensures that people have a place at the table, and purpose keeps me focused on creating meaningful impact rather than simply pursuing accomplishments.
