Her Interview
Ten minutes with Keisha
01What do you attribute your success to?
I just pat myself on the back because I'm still shooting through, and still, to just want to see other women do the same. It's so easy to just say, you know, I throw in a towel because so many things we had went through in our life, you know, to still stay motivated.
02What’s the best career advice you’ve ever received?
Just being persistent, and kind of just, you know, whatever you feel like, your hard nightmares is, just keep pushing through until you achieve it, you know? There's always going to be obstacles along the way of life, whatever, but I feel like once you achieve a goal. You know, no matter how long it takes to get to it, it's the feeling of knowing that you didn't give up on whatever you're trying to do.
03What advice would you give to young women entering your industry?
Believe in yourself. That's so important. Believing y'all. Be confident in the world. Always put yourself first, and keep pushing. Always having faith and confidence in who you are, and knowing who you are, and just believe in yourself, you know? Just really just believing in yourself. You have to tell yourself every day when you wake up and look in that mirror, like, whatever you feel confident and do this. I am great.
04What are the biggest challenges or opportunities in your field right now?
Sometimes, you know, everything is by what degree you have. But sometimes a piece of paper, I'm not gonna say it's not important, because it is, but sometimes life experiences is so much greater than a piece of paper. Somebody may feel like, oh, you're not fit for this because of you don't have this. But I feel like my life experience, my ceremony, my faith, my confidence, my persistence qualifies me.
05What values are most important to you in your work and personal life?
Just being consistent, trusting yourself, confidence. Just being aware of sometimes, I think that, when we go through things in our life. Sometimes we don't realize there's gonna be things that we're we have patterns. Of doing certain things a certain way to where maybe there's something that you want to accomplish whatever, but you may think you may realize that you're doing certain things the same way, and sometimes you have to go back and redirect you and say, okay, maybe this is not working because I keep doing things this way. So, it's just really being aware of yourself, aware of your life. Your past and your future.
