Her Interview
Ten minutes with Keisha
01What do you attribute your success to?
I attribute my success to an unwavering commitment to hard work, curiosity, and continuous improvement. Throughout my career, I have approached every opportunity with a go-getter mindset and a willingness to fully understand how organizations operate. I have always had a natural ability to assess situations, identify underlying challenges, and determine what needs to be improved to help organizations perform more effectively.
My success has also been driven by a genuine passion for both people and organizations. I enjoy understanding business objectives and aligning human resource strategies to support those goals while helping individuals reach their full potential. In addition, my faith has provided a strong foundation that guides my decision-making, leadership approach, and commitment to serving others.
02What’s the best career advice you’ve ever received?
The best career advice I have ever received is to always be true to myself. Throughout my professional journey, authenticity has allowed me to lead with confidence, integrity, and consistency. Remaining grounded in my values has enabled me to navigate challenges, make difficult decisions, and build meaningful relationships while staying aligned with who I am as both a leader and an individual.
03What advice would you give to young women entering your industry?
I encourage young women to view education and career development as lifelong pursuits. Learning should never stop, regardless of your level of experience or position. Continue building your knowledge, expanding your skills, and seeking opportunities for growth throughout your career.
Equally important is developing strong professional relationships. Never stop meeting new people, seeking mentors, and learning from those who have walked the path before you. As your career progresses, make it a priority to mentor others as well. Change is constant in both business and life, and success often comes from embracing that reality, remaining adaptable, and being open to new opportunities and perspectives.
04What are the biggest challenges or opportunities in your field right now?
One of the challenges I have experienced throughout my career is being underestimated. Early in my professional journey, I was often the youngest person in the room, the only woman, or the only African American in leadership discussions. At times, people formed assumptions based on appearances or preconceived notions rather than capabilities and expertise.
At the same time, these experiences created opportunities to demonstrate leadership, deliver results, and challenge outdated perceptions. I believe there remains significant opportunity within human resources, organizational development, and DEIB work to help organizations build stronger cultures, create more equitable workplaces, and align people strategies with business objectives. Despite changing conversations in the marketplace, these areas continue to play a critical role in organizational success and long-term growth.
05What values are most important to you in your work and personal life?
Integrity is the value that guides everything I do. I believe leaders have a responsibility to operate honestly, ethically, and consistently while creating environments built on trust and accountability. Throughout my career, I have worked to serve as both a strategic and visionary leader while helping organizations remain aligned with their values and mission.
I also believe strongly in organizational excellence and in valuing people from all backgrounds, experiences, and levels within an organization. By treating people with respect, fostering inclusion, and encouraging ethical decision-making, organizations can create cultures where individuals thrive and business objectives are achieved in a sustainable and meaningful way.
