Her Story

About Kellan

I started my career in sales almost 11 years ago because I've always had a passion for building relationships and helping people solve problems that ultimately lead them to reach their goals as companies and organizations. I began as an individual contributor, but through the various roles I had - mainly at one company for the majority of my career - I always kind of took on different leadership roles on the team. I would help train the new hires and answer questions on the team, since managers are always spread really thin. I just kind of gravitated toward that, and it was a natural transition. Since I was already doing that on the team, I had the opportunity to get promoted, and we moved my family down to Cincinnati where I managed a team of 8 individuals. Now I've had the opportunity to become a Director of Sales, and it's been kind of a natural progression of just leveraging my knowledge and having that strategic view. I went to Ohio State University where I majored in business with a double major in logistics and marketing - we didn't have sales back then, so there wasn't a sales category to specialize in. But combining the two has been helpful, since logistics isn't just your trucks and all of that, it's also a lot of process and how to navigate different steps within a process and how to get from A to B. I think that's helped me a lot with my sales process, and marketing obviously brings the creative side. It's been really fun, and I've enjoyed it.

01What’s the best career advice you’ve ever received?

The best advice I've ever gotten, and the thing I always go back to, is that you'll never regret doing your best - your very best - every day, whatever that looks like. I've definitely gotten here through a lot of great mentors and a lot of great advice over time, but this is the one I always come back to. I think it's the best advice because you always feel good when you do your very best.

02What advice would you give to young women entering your industry?

I would say to do something that's hard, that challenges you, and put 100% effort into it. Because you'll never regret where that will lead you and the opportunity. Don't close doors, and always be open to opportunities.

03What values are most important to you in your work and personal life?

I value having good integrity and building relationships - I think that can get you really far in anything in life and in your role professionally. Family on a personal level is extremely important to me. I have two little ones, so being a mom and a professional is a lot to balance and navigate, but everything that I do on my professional side is for them, not just from a financial standpoint, but also I want them to see that if they put their mind to it, they can achieve anything that they want. They can do hard things. So I would say integrity, relationships, and family are certainly my core values.
