About Kelley
Kelley Wells serves as VP for Clinical Applications for Indiana University Health, the largest healthcare system in the state of Indiana. With a background as a pharmacist, she transitioned into healthcare IT approximately 10 years ago after working in long-term care pharmacies where she rolled out systems for new locations backed by investors. In her current role, she oversees all clinical applications and is involved in the system's electronic health record transformation project. She attributes her professional drive to a longstanding focus on patient care and safety, noting that pharmacists' detail-oriented approach serves them well in IT and leadership, and she enjoys breaking down processes for ongoing improvement.

01What do you attribute your success to?
I've always just had the drive towards taking care of patients. As a pharmacist, they instill in you from the get-go that you are there for safety, worrying about the little details that make all the difference on how a patient's treated. Pharmacists tend to do well in IT and leadership because we are so detail-oriented. I'm an operational person who enjoys taking a process and breaking it down to make it 5% better and then a little bit more, constantly doing continuous improvement.
