Her Story
About Kelly
Kelly Benton serves as Design Lead at Code for America, a civic tech nonprofit organization. In this role she leads service design strategy across a multi-state partnership for the summer EBT division, collaborating with government agencies in states including California, DC, Texas, and Maryland. She maps end-to-end experiences for clients applying for benefits such as Medicaid, SNAP, summer assistance programs, and child care support, with the goal of reducing administrative burdens and improving access for vulnerable populations. Benton holds a BFA in Service Design from Savannah College of Art and Design and has spent eight and a half years in the service design field after transitioning from a fine art background in painting, drawing, and graphic design. Her prior experience spans the medical industry, government, nonprofits, and general tech. She maintains connections to the Service Design Network, is a member of the NAACP Delta Sigma Theta Sorority Incorporated where she participates in volunteer activities, and belongs to the Circle community. Benton approaches her work with trauma-informed and human-centered design practices, drawing inspiration from family matriarchs and professors to practice patience and pursue meaningful social impact.
