About Kelly

Kelly Buchanan serves as a B2B sales consultant for the National Federation of Independent Business (NFIB), a role she has held since December 2, 2013. In this position, she contacts members to renew their annual memberships, provides updates on legislation affecting small businesses, and aims to renew at premium levels. She has earned President's Club recognition for 10 out of her 13 years with the organization. Prior to NFIB, Buchanan spent approximately 10 years in the mortgage industry, advancing from receptionist to managing a satellite office, followed by 10 years as a broker at top-tier Wall Street firms including Morgan Stanley and Smith Barney. She then worked in private banking at Wachovia for 5 to 10 years and later as a settlement officer at Consumer Tax Relief, assisting individuals with IRS and state tax obligations. Buchanan credits her professional success to having empathy, the ability to listen effectively during phone conversations, and a genuine passion for NFIB's mission of supporting small businesses. She speaks Spanish fluently, a skill developed while working in Miami.

Her Interview

Ten minutes with Kelly

01What do you attribute your success to?

I have the gift of gab but the skill is having empathy and being able to listen. Being able to know when to cut it short or when to talk based on their voice and cues since it's all over the phone. I've perfected that skill over the years with this company.

02What advice would you give to young women entering your industry?

Be true to yourself and genuine because people can tell if you're authentic. Learn how to listen and not put in your own judgments. Don't stop learning, constantly listen to podcasts. Start your day the right way with a positive mindset and affirmations about where you want to be in the future. Stay in your own lane and maintain a good attitude even on tough days.

03What values are most important to you in your work and personal life?

Empathy, compassion, passion for the mission, learning mindset, positive mindset, authenticity, family values, and faith. I have a strong faith and start each day with positive energy and manifestation practices to attract good outcomes.
