Her Story

About Kelly

I've been in insurance for 6 years professionally, though I also have a degree in insurance and did 2 years of interning, which I feel like most people don't have. I graduated from the University of Georgia magna cum laude with a risk management and insurance degree and a certificate in legal studies from the Moorhead Honors College, which is the top 5% of the class. I was an Honors College ambassador while I was there. I started at Marsh as a track associate in a rotational graduate program for 2 years, then moved into management liability where I've been for about 4 years. I work in financial lines, placing directors and officers insurance, employment practices liability, fiduciary liability, crime, even some kidnap and ransom insurance, wage and hour, and some errors and omissions. Directors and officers is probably my bread and butter, especially for large public companies. Every day looks a little bit different depending on what my clients need and what phase of the renewal cycle they're in. Some days I'm on calls with clients for 6 hours. Last week I was in Bermuda with two different clients for 14-hour days. I'm where the client needs me to be, whether traveling, in the office, or working remotely. We are partners year-round for anything they need. Currently, I'm helping one of my clients, a Fortune 50 company, spin out one of its subsidiaries into another public company through their initial public offering. I've taken clients from private to public before and helped with initial public offerings, but this is its own interesting challenge because I'm taking one of my largest clients and splitting them into two, helping both of them and trying to get both the best outcomes while maintaining that they're separate companies.

01What values are most important to you in your work and personal life?

I'm always open to meeting new people in this community and getting to know more people and helping them in any way I can. That's how you build community, which I think is very important, especially with women in the business world. I'm a member of The Bridge, which is another female-specific talent organization specifically for financial lines insurance, so I always want to expand my network in that kind of realm and support people anywhere I can. When asked about what's important to me regarding being featured, I would say broadening my network and strengthening my personal brand are equally important.
