Her Interview
Ten minutes with Kelly
01What do you attribute your success to?
Kelly Edmondson is a senior healthcare executive with more than two decades of clinical leadership experience, a certified grief counselor, and a bereaved mother. She attributes her success to integrating professional expertise with lived experience, leading with presence, and building human-centered cultures that sustain both performance and people.
02What’s the best career advice you’ve ever received?
“Don’t confuse performance with purpose. Build a career you don’t have to recover from.”
03What advice would you give to young women entering your industry?
Learn the system before you try to change it—but don’t let the system change you. Build technical excellence early, seek mentors who will tell you the truth, and protect your values as carefully as your credentials. Your voice, presence, and integrity will matter just as much as your performance over time.
04What are the biggest challenges or opportunities in your field right now?
The greatest challenge—and opportunity—is redefining leadership to account for the human experience. In healthcare and organizational leadership, we are facing unprecedented burnout, grief, and disengagement. The opportunity lies in integrating emotional intelligence, presence, and compassionate systems into how we lead, retain talent, and deliver outcomes—without compromising performance.
05What values are most important to you in your work and personal life?
Presence, integrity, and compassion. Presence ensures people feel seen and heard, integrity keeps my actions aligned with my values, and compassion guides how I lead, build, and show up for others—especially in moments that cannot be rushed or fixed.
