Her Story

About Kelly

I've been in my field for 16 years, and I've always loved the assistant career. I started in the public sector working for local government for about 12 and a half years, serving as a public service director and in code compliance, always as an administrative assistant. I felt like I wanted to grow, but I loved my assistant career, so I didn't need a career change. I just wanted to grow within that career. I took a chance at applying for my current position, and during the interview process, my CEO Trina and I just clicked right off the bat, and we're going strong ever since. I've been in this particular role for a little over three and a half years now. I handle my CEO's travel, all her meetings, making sure she's prepped for all of her meetings, and obviously her email management. I'm kind of the forefront of our corporate office, so people come to me for everything. I do a lot of project management as well, and I'm very much engaged in office work, kind of office manager type of work. I've recently gotten into booking travel for our president/COO and picking up more of his things. When needed, I assist our senior executive team with any little projects that they have. I also plan corporate events and do a lot of public outreach. I organize volunteer initiatives like diaper drives for families in need, Humane Society partnerships, and we're really big with the Ronald McDonald houses because we bake for McDonald's. I'm your go-to, your number one. My CEO often laughs and tells me I don't have to say yes to everything, but it works out perfect.

01What advice would you give to young women entering your industry?

Really just the sky's the limit. Don't ever think that you're just, you know, you're quote-unquote just the assistant, because I think so a lot of times it gets perceived that way. And really, you are one of the most important in the office. And sometimes you just feel like you're just the assistant, but don't, you know, don't ever obviously think that, and like I said, the sky's the limit, and never stop reaching for that next step. I was always kind of questioning, like, what is my next step? Like, where do I go as an assistant? And I think a lot of us do that, is, like, we feel like we're just stuck, like, we're just gonna be answering phones and doing day-to-day things. We never really put ourselves out there for that next role. So, I felt like I needed to do that.
