Her Story

About Kelly

I've been in higher education for 20 years, partnering with universities to offer online courses that help students persist and complete their degree programs. There are 41 million students with some credit but no degree who hit federal funding limits and stop, leaving them with debt but no credential. As a first-generation student who worked three jobs to finish my own degree without support, this work feels like a full circle, allowing me to help others finish the dreams they started.

Ten minutes with Kelly

01What do you attribute your success to?

I would attribute my success to resilience. Nothing is changing, and you have to be resilient and just dust off your knees and keep going, and don't be afraid to learn. It's okay to make mistakes, that's where the learning is.

02What’s the best career advice you’ve ever received?

Perfectionism isn't something to be proud of, it's a delay tactic because of fear of failure. My current CEO said great is the enemy of good. It doesn't need to be perfect, I can turn it in just like it is, and it's gonna be okay.

03What advice would you give to young women entering your industry?

Everything needs to be in small chunks. If it's tough, lean into support. I just kept doing one thing, and I kept going one more day. One step at a time. You don't have to see where you're going, it's just one step. Mentors and people who are authentically ready to help are out there.

04What values are most important to you in your work and personal life?

Tenacity is important. Don't be afraid to swing big. Everyone fails, and failure is an opportunity to learn. Helping from the heart with empathy and compassion is so important. Anything you do is going to be well-intentioned if it comes from a place of understanding and giving people support.
