About Kelsey
Kelsey Butler is a Senior Accountant at the Massachusetts Clean Energy Center (MassCEC), a quasi-government organization dedicated to advancing clean energy initiatives across Massachusetts. With approximately eight years of experience in accounting and finance, she supports the organization’s mission by managing financial reporting, analyzing statements, reconciling accounts, strengthening financial controls, and ensuring compliance with accounting standards and regulations. In her role, she has contributed to process improvements that have increased efficiency and helped significantly reduce monthly costs.
Before joining MassCEC, Kelsey worked as a Staff Accountant at eCratchit Nonprofit Accounting, where she developed her passion for mission-driven organizations and gained extensive experience supporting nonprofit clients across various sectors. Her expertise includes nonprofit accounting, funding and grant accounting, restricted fund management, budgeting, reporting, variance analysis, and improving accounting processes. She is particularly passionate about helping organizations connect financial data with meaningful outcomes and ensuring resources are managed effectively to support their missions.
Kelsey holds a Bachelor of Science in Accounting and Finance from Bridgewater State University. Beyond her professional career, she is focused on building a real estate portfolio with her husband and values family, loyalty, honesty, and enjoying life. She takes great pride in supporting her younger brother with autism and helping ensure he has access to the resources and opportunities he needs. Kelsey’s commitment to service, continuous learning, and creating positive impact reflects her belief that accounting is not just about numbers—it is about supporting people and organizations that make a difference.

01What do you attribute your success to?
I attribute my success to being mission-driven. Having a strong sense of purpose keeps me focused, motivated, and committed to making a meaningful impact.
02What’s the best career advice you’ve ever received?
The best career advice I’ve received is to work with balance—give 100% of yourself to others, but only after they have earned your trust. Building strong relationships based on trust is essential for long-term success.
03What advice would you give to young women entering your industry?
My advice to young women entering this industry is to expect to work hard, stay consistent, and remain committed to continuous growth. Success comes from dedication, resilience, and showing up every day with purpose.
04What are the biggest challenges or opportunities in your field right now?
The biggest challenge in my field is that the work can sometimes feel routine and focused on numbers. However, there are significant opportunities within mission-driven organizations that bring purpose, meaning, and human connection behind the data.
05What values are most important to you in your work and personal life?
The values most important to me in both my work and personal life are family, loyalty, honesty, and having fun. These values guide how I build relationships, make decisions, and approach challenges with authenticity and positivity.
