Her Interview
Ten minutes with Kelsi
01What do you attribute your success to?
I attribute my success to working my whole life since I was young, having a lot of drive and hard work, and wanting to work for myself rather than a big corporation. The motivation came from wanting my own schedule and escaping the hospital system after seeing so much in Level 1 trauma centers, which drove me to build my own company.
02What’s the best career advice you’ve ever received?
The best career advice I've received is to be patient and be kind because you never know who you're going to encounter. Kindness goes a long way, and I've always tried to be kind to everyone even if they've been unpleasant.
03What advice would you give to young women entering your industry?
I would say don't give up. It's very hard. Accept the challenges as they come. Roll with the punches because you're going to get thrown lots of them. You'll be told no a thousand times but it only takes one yes.
04What are the biggest challenges or opportunities in your field right now?
Competition is a big thing right now. We're dealing with that struggle, figuring out the best way to market yourself and stand out from others. There are a lot of little mom-and-pop places trying to come up, but you have to have volume. Standing out from other companies and appreciating your worth is key.
05What values are most important to you in your work and personal life?
Family is most important, and prioritizing my staff. I really try to take care of them and make sure they're all really taken care of. Also making sure my parents are well taken care of. Work-life balance and having time for personal sanity is important too.
