Her Interview
Ten minutes with Kendra
01What do you attribute your success to?
I attribute my success to the values instilled in me by my family. My father taught me that you're never too old to learn something new and that the sky is the limit when it comes to achieving your goals. I have also been inspired by my grandfather, who was the first Black locksmith in Fort Worth, Texas, and whose perseverance and pioneering spirit continue to motivate me to pursue excellence and embrace new opportunities.
02What’s the best career advice you’ve ever received?
The best career advice I've ever received is that the sky's the limit. That simple mindset has inspired me to keep striving for excellence, embrace new challenges, and continually pursue opportunities for growth, both personally and professionally.
03What advice would you give to young women entering your industry?
My advice to young women entering this industry is to never give up. Challenges will come, but every obstacle is an opportunity to grow. When life gives you lemons, make lemonade. I became a teenage mom, yet I refused to let that define my future. With determination, perseverance, and a willingness to keep moving forward, you can achieve more than you ever imagined.
04What are the biggest challenges or opportunities in your field right now?
One of the biggest challenges in my field right now is ensuring employees receive enough work hours while balancing budget constraints and staffing efficiency. At the same time, this presents an opportunity to develop creative workforce strategies, optimize resources, and support employees while meeting organizational goals.
05What values are most important to you in your work and personal life?
The value I hold most important in both my work and personal life is accountability. I believe in taking responsibility for my actions, whether the outcome is positive or challenging, and using every experience as an opportunity to learn, grow, and move forward with integrity.
