Kendra Stevens, BSN, RN, is a seasoned perioperative leader and the Director of Surgical Services at Mish Hospital and Clinics. With a strong nursing foundation and extensive experience across orthopedics, neurology, spine, vascular, robotics, bariatrics, and plastics, she is recognized for her clinical precision and strategic approach to operating room management. Kendra combines data-driven decision-making with collaborative leadership, working closely with surgeons, anesthesia providers, staff, and executive leadership to ensure safe, efficient, and patient-centered surgical care.
Throughout her career, Kendra has led initiatives that enhance operational efficiency, staff competency, and patient safety. She has successfully reduced overtime labor costs, implemented AORN-aligned training programs, optimized sterile processing workflows, and strengthened vendor and distributor partnerships. Kendra has also played a key role in expanding surgical services, including onboarding new spine and bariatric programs, while maintaining seamless coordination between clinic and OR operations. Her leadership style emphasizes anticipating needs, preventing harm, and fostering a supportive environment for both staff and patients.

What’s the best career advice you’ve ever received?
I was advised to never forget where I came from while climbing the ladder. Staying grounded and remembering your roots keeps your leadership authentic.
What advice would you give to young women entering your industry?
Observe carefully how things work before diving in, and don’t be afraid to speak up once you understand the process. Confidence paired with insight is key to growth.
What are the biggest challenges or opportunities in your field right now?
Ensuring that all positions collaborate and communicate effectively is both a challenge and an opportunity to enhance safety, efficiency, and team cohesion in the perioperative environment.
