Her Story
About Kenisha
Kenisha Rubio serves as the Custodial, Logistics, and Event Manager for Campus Environment at Mount St. Mary’s University, a position she has held for three years. She oversees custodial and logistics operations and coordinates setups for major campus events and functions hosted by outside organizations.
Her hospitality career spans more than a decade, including nearly eleven years in sales and catering management at Hager Hall Conference and Events. She also brings experience in front desk management and operations leadership at Fairfield Inn & Suites by Marriott. As an active member of the MPI Potomac Chapter, Kenisha remains engaged in the events management profession.
Alongside her university role, Kenisha recently launched WiseGuy Security Consulting, LLC. She is pursuing a bachelor’s degree in Human Services and Business at Mount St. Mary’s University, building on her Human Services certificate from Hagerstown Community College. She is also a licensed cosmetologist and holds additional credentials in real estate and insurance.
Kenisha credits much of her professional growth to the mentorship and encouragement of her leadership team. Their belief in her abilities has influenced how she leads, supports, and encourages her own staff.
Outside of work, Kenisha is a devoted mother of seven and grandmother to one granddaughter, supported by her husband of seventeen years. Her long-term goal is to combine her education, business experience, and commitment to service by establishing a nonprofit resource center for individuals experiencing homelessness and teenage girls in her community.

01What do you attribute your success to?
I credit my success at Mount St. Mary’s University to the leadership team, whose belief in me and continued support have helped me grow as both a manager and a person. Their encouragement inspires me to offer that same support to my own team.
02What’s the best career advice you’ve ever received?
The best career advice I’ve ever received is to never stop learning and never let fear keep me from pursuing an opportunity. Growth often begins with taking a chance on yourself.
03What advice would you give to young women entering your industry?
I would tell young women entering this industry that the road may be challenging, but their goals are worth pursuing. Believe in your abilities, keep learning, and speak up for yourself. You have something valuable to bring to the table.
04What are the biggest challenges or opportunities in your field right now?
The biggest challenge I face right now is maintaining adequate staffing. The rising cost of living has made retaining employees more difficult, but I’m grateful for a dedicated team whose hard work and commitment help us meet each day’s demands.
05What values are most important to you in your work and personal life?
Being seen and valued matters deeply to me, and I want my team to feel the same. I make it a priority to recognize their hard work and ensure they know their contributions matter. Above all, family comes first. I’m a proud mother of seven, with the love and support of my husband of seventeen years.
