Her Story

About Kennedie

Kennedie Scurry is a journalist, multimedia storyteller, and host of The Kenlo Show, a platform she created to provide a voice and platform for the creative community. She has hosted the show for approximately 10 years, using it to highlight artists, entrepreneurs, community leaders, and other individuals making an impact through their work and creativity. After years of working independently, Scurry recently gained studio production support, allowing her to further expand the reach and production of her media work. In addition to her journalism career, she has worked independently as a paraprofessional supporting children with autism for approximately six years.

Scurry’s career reflects her commitment to storytelling, community engagement, and creating opportunities for voices that may otherwise go unheard. She earned her bachelor’s degree in Mass Communications from Arcadia University in 2019 after beginning her higher education at Community College of Philadelphia. Her accomplishments have been recognized through honors including the Rose Award from a community leader and the Media Partner Award from Kabila Events, both received in 2025. These recognitions reflect her contributions to media, community storytelling, and her continued efforts to connect with and uplift the people around her.

Scurry attributes her success to God, her father, who inspired her to start a blog and has continued to encourage and support her throughout her journey, and her stepmother, who has also been an important source of support. She values consideration, awareness, and maintaining a positive attitude, particularly during situations that may feel beyond her control. Her career philosophy is centered on creating her own lane, identifying a niche, and pursuing opportunities independently rather than waiting for them to appear. She encourages others to remain confident in their goals, never allow others to deter them from their ambitions, and recognize that with persistence and determination, the possibilities are limitless.

Her Interview

Ten minutes with Kennedie

01What do you attribute your success to?

I attribute my success first and foremost to God, whose gifts and guidance have made my journey possible. I am also deeply grateful to my father, who has been an incredible inspiration and has consistently encouraged and supported me throughout my career. He has always reminded me that “the universe rewards effort,” and his unwavering belief in me has motivated and driven me to pursue my goals with determination. My stepmother has also been an important part of my support system, providing encouragement and strength along the way. Together, their love, guidance, and belief in me have played a meaningful role in shaping who I am and the success I have achieved.

02What’s the best career advice you’ve ever received?

The best career advice I have ever received is to create my own lane and build my own opportunities. Rather than waiting for opportunities to come to me, I believe in taking initiative, recognizing my strengths, and creating paths that align with my goals. This mindset has encouraged me to be confident, resourceful, and intentional about building a career on my own terms.

03What advice would you give to young women entering your industry?

My advice to young women entering my industry is to never let anyone deter you from pursuing what you want to achieve. Find your niche, recognize your strengths, and be willing to create and pursue opportunities for yourself rather than waiting for them to come your way. Stay confident, remain persistent, and continue to believe in your potential. The sky is truly the limit when you are willing to work for what you want and stay committed to your goals.

04What are the biggest challenges or opportunities in your field right now?

One of the biggest challenges in my field right now is getting your foot in the door with certain publications. Establishing relationships, gaining visibility, and having your work recognized by respected publications can be difficult, especially when opportunities are highly competitive. At the same time, I see this as an opportunity to be creative, build a strong portfolio, develop meaningful connections, and seek out new platforms that can help expand my reach and create opportunities for growth.

05What values are most important to you in your work and personal life?

The values that are most important to me in both my work and personal life are consideration, awareness, and maintaining a positive attitude. I believe in being mindful of how my actions and decisions affect others, staying aware of the circumstances around me, and approaching challenges with a positive mindset. Even when situations are beyond my control, I focus on what I can do, remain optimistic, and continue moving forward.
