Her Story

About Khadia

I've been working in finance for over 6 years, and my journey started because I'm first generation and wanted to help my mom with her finances. I began at Ameriprise Financial in their corporate office, where I was making about 150 calls a day, reaching out to clients whose accounts were not in good standing - what we call smiling and dialing. I've stayed with Ameriprise throughout my career, but I transitioned from a corporate position to a franchise advisor role. Now I work out of the Chicago office as part of a team of 3 advisors with 3 support staff, while the rest of my team is based in Texas. I manage my own book of business with roughly 190 accounts, and on a day-to-day basis, I work with athletes, women, CEOs, and different clients, helping them with their financial planning. I essentially serve as the CFO of their financials, depending on who the client is. Beyond my client work, I'm passionate about speaking and educating others about finances. I've presented at Ameriprise's yearly conference and have upcoming speaking engagements with organizations like the National Society of Black Engineers. I've also been invited to speak by various organizations through ActBlue and LinkedIn.

01What values are most important to you in your work and personal life?

When asked about her 5-year vision, I shared that balance is really important to me. I have two kids, one is 1 and the other is turning 4 tomorrow, so in 5 years they'll be 9 and 6. I want to be deeper in my career with a more specific schedule that allows me to do all the things that I enjoy doing, especially family time. I feel like now there's a little bit of balance, but it's not as well as I would like it to be. Within 5 years, I hope to be more well-established in my career and be able to balance myself a little bit better. I also believe strongly in visibility and impact - it's wonderful to do wonderful things, but if you do wonderful things and put them under a bowl, then what's the point? The more people that I can let know what I'm doing and how I can assist, I think that's the most important thing.
