Khadija Badla-Hamza, M.Ed., is a distinguished learning and development professional with extensive expertise in leadership, coaching, and special education. Currently serving as a Dyslexia Specialist at Klein Independent School District, she leverages data-driven instructional strategies to assess and support over 150 students annually, creating individualized learning plans that consistently improve academic outcomes. Her innovative approach to curriculum design and professional development empowers educators and enhances organizational effectiveness, reflecting her commitment to evidence-based educational practices.
In addition to her classroom and specialist roles, Khadija serves as a School Board Member at Houston Peace Academy, where she plays a pivotal role in shaping district policy, guiding strategic initiatives, and ensuring state and federal compliance across multiple school sites. She has successfully led multi-year planning efforts, coordinated cross-functional teams, and fostered strong relationships with parents, community members, and business leaders. What do you attribute your success to?
I attribute my success to my deep devotion to education and my commitment to ensuring that all children and young adults, including those who face unique challenges, are treated with the same respect and opportunities as their peers. Being the first on my father’s side of the family to earn a degree has instilled in me a profound appreciation for the power of education and perseverance. I am passionate about supporting every student’s growth and achievement, and I take great pride in helping each individual reach their full potential.
What’s the best career advice you’ve ever received?
The best career advice I’ve ever received is that with hard work, perseverance, and clear goals, you can achieve anything you set your mind to.
What advice would you give to young women entering your industry?
My advice to young women entering this industry is to stay persistent, embrace challenges, and be willing to adapt and overcome obstacles success is very much possible with determination and resilience.
What are the biggest challenges or opportunities in your field right now?
One of the biggest challenges in my field is learning to let go of the students after working closely with them in programs that span 2.5 years. I become deeply invested in their growth and development, and while it’s difficult, seeing them achieve greatness is also one of the most rewarding aspects of my work.
What values are most important to you in your work and personal life?
The values most important to me in both my work and personal life are being actively involved and making a meaningful difference in the lives of those I encounter, particularly through education.
