Khansa Khatoon
Khansa Khatoon is the Founder of ALIFF, a wardrobe-first AI styling platform designed specifically for modest Muslim women. Based in the Dallas–Fort Worth Metroplex, she is building a privacy-first, modesty-centered styling solution that helps women create intentional outfits from the clothing they already own. Her work focuses on bridging the gap between cultural identity and modern technology, with an emphasis on thoughtful design, personalization, and everyday practicality.
Her journey into modest fashion and product innovation is deeply personal. Khansa began wearing the hijab nearly two years ago, a transition that significantly changed how she approached personal style. Having once embraced styling her naturally curly hair, she experienced firsthand how challenging it can be to redefine one’s aesthetic while maintaining modesty. During the past year and a half, she traveled extensively outside the United States, including time in Turkey and Malaysia, where she observed how effortlessly and elegantly modest women express style in their daily lives. This experience shaped her belief that modesty should be both stylish and accessible for women everywhere, particularly in Western contexts where such tools are limited or nonexistent.
After returning to the United States, she began experimenting with AI-based styling tools to solve her own daily wardrobe challenges. This personal exploration evolved into the foundation for ALIFF. She has since been actively building in public, gathering feedback from women, and refining the product based on real user needs. Most recently, she participated in a startup pitch competition at the EmpowHerCon Muslim Shark Tank Experience, where she received strong feedback and validation for the problem she is solving. While she did not win, the experience reinforced her commitment to continue developing the platform with community input and iterative design.
Professionally, Khansa brings over nine years of experience as a creative strategist in digital marketing, along with a strong background in photography, food styling, and visual storytelling. She is also a food photographer and passionate about cooking, blending creativity across both her personal and professional work. A first-generation immigrant from India and from a business-oriented family, she represents the fourth generation continuing a legacy of entrepreneurship. ALIFF is a fully bootstrapped venture, built independently, reflecting her commitment to creating a product rooted in lived experience, community insight, and long-term vision.

What do you attribute your success to?
I am from a business family, so I would be the fourth generation in business. I grew up watching my father work with a lot of discipline, and he was fully present for his family. There was not a single time we were like, okay, daddy doesn't give us time. That is what made me feel that there needs to be a strict balance in life. That's shaped how I see success, I believe.
My work has always centered around understanding people. Whether through strategy or photography, I pay attention to behavior and detail. Over time, that consistency and perspective have created opportunities.
What’s the best career advice you’ve ever received?
To stay anchored in your values.
There will always be faster ways to grow or more visible ways to succeed, but if they don’t align with who you are, they don’t last.
That perspective has guided me through different stages of my career, and now as I build Aliff.
What advice would you give to young women entering your industry?
I'd say be clear about who you're building for, if you're building something in AI, and why. Know your why. Why are you doing this?
I come from a different cultural background - I am a first-generation immigrant. Initially, like 11 years ago, it felt like I had to adjust myself to fit in. But in reality, my perspective is what set me apart. So for the women who are starting out, I would just say, don't try to fit in. Your perspective is unique, and that will set you apart.
What are the biggest challenges or opportunities in your field right now?
The biggest shift is how accessible everything has become.
With AI and content tools, more people can create, which also means there’s more noise. The challenge is not production, it’s clarity.
The opportunity is in building something intentional. With Aliff, which I’m currently launching, I’m focused on a very specific user and her everyday decisions. That level of focus is what cuts through.
What values are most important to you in your work and personal life?
Family is at the center of everything.
I’m a mother of two boys, and that shapes how I define success and how I spend my time.
Alongside that, faith, integrity, and amanah guide my work. Trust is not something I take lightly, especially when building a product.
I want to create something that grows, but also stays true to what it stands for.
