Her Story
About khyati
I started in my field in 2009 and have been in similar roles since 2016, first at Thomson Reuters in the evaluations team pricing fixed income bonds, and now at Bloomberg in a very niche segment of municipal bonds. Pursuing my CFA and becoming a chartered financial analyst has been my biggest achievement and helped me get where I am. I came to the U.S. in 2016 determined to work in fixed income and reached out persistently until I landed the role.
Her Interview
Ten minutes with khyati
01What do you attribute your success to?
I feel I'm determined in terms of if I want something, I will really work around it to try and get that. When I came to the U.S. in 2016 I was very sure I wanted something in the fixed income space so I tried hard with applications and reaching out to people.
02What’s the best career advice you’ve ever received?
I have got amazing mentors because of whom I have reached where I am. You got to try, like unless you try it's not going to work out right? Because the other person doesn't know what you want.
03What advice would you give to young women entering your industry?
Don't shy away from talking to people, reaching out to them. What is the worst thing that could happen? They would just say a no. So that shouldn't deter you. Just go ahead and give it a try. There are higher chances of something working than not working.
04What are the biggest challenges or opportunities in your field right now?
The biggest challenge is there are less women in the industry. At times that becomes a hurdle to go up the ladder because male-to-male interaction happens at a different level. The opportunity lies in advancing in the role I am in, getting to a better position with better compensation. There is nothing that can stop just growing from here on.
05What values are most important to you in your work and personal life?
Ethics, like good ethics, in terms of being sincere to whatever I do and being honest. If I'm being asked to do something, I would sincerely do it, not just for the heck of doing it.
