Her Story

About Kiana

I serve as Chief Strategy Officer and Principal Senior Advisor to the Director at the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention in the National Center for Health Statistics. My days involve problem-solving at an executive level, leading strategic planning, resource allocation, workforce development, partnership engagement, securing funding, and championing risk management including data confidentiality and compliance. I also advise the director on programmatic issues. I hold an MBA with a concentration in Strategy from the University of Georgia and a bachelor's from Clark Atlanta University in Mass Media Arts and Public Relations Management. My passion lies at the intersection of business and public health, having deployed during COVID-19 to roll out the agency's first health equity strategy and worked overseas on social determinants of health.

01What do you attribute your success to?

Knowing yourself and your purpose and calling has to be at the foundation. My core is based on faith, and through that faith I'm able to achieve my purpose and calling. Working in public health allows me to see the impact on families and communities, including my own mother's stroke, sister's multiple sclerosis, brother's autism, and father's heart attack. Being a woman of color in leadership also motivates me to ensure others see someone who looks like them making a difference.
