Her Interview
Ten minutes with Kiara
01What do you attribute your success to?
My family has been incredibly supportive. When I told my mom I was installed as chapter president, she wanted to come see me get sworn in and even sent my grandmother who took pictures and told me she was proud. My family and friends and advisors supported me throughout.
02What’s the best career advice you’ve ever received?
Don't do it for the money. Do it to make a difference in someone's life.
03What advice would you give to young women entering your industry?
Believe that your voice belongs in every room you enter. Don’t wait until you feel “ready” to apply for leadership opportunities, internships, or speaking engagements. Build your network, keep learning, ask questions, and never be afraid to take up space. Your perspective and experiences are valuable. Success isn’t about being perfect—it’s about being willing to grow, lead with integrity, and lift others up along the way.
04What are the biggest challenges or opportunities in your field right now?
Being the first African American female chapter president at my college is both a challenge and opportunity. I'm scared I don't want to mess up anything or disappoint anybody but I want to do a great job representing my chapter, community, and family.
05What values are most important to you in your work and personal life?
Being kind no matter what because you never know what blessings you will get. Always keep your head up and persevere through challenges.
