Her Interview

Ten minutes with Kiera

01What do you attribute your success to?

I attribute my success to my passion for helping others, building trust, and continually learning. My experience supporting individuals with disabilities taught me the importance of patience, advocacy, and meeting people where they are. I also value mentorship and surrounding myself with people who encourage my personal and professional growth.

02What’s the best career advice you’ve ever received?

The best career advice I’ve received came from my mentor and colleague, Monica Badgett, whose guidance and encouragement have supported my professional growth. Her mentorship reinforced my belief in the importance of women supporting and uplifting one another while continuing to grow personally and professionally.

03What advice would you give to young women entering your industry?

I would advise young women to stay current with research, emerging techniques, AI, and technology in workforce development. The industry has changed significantly, so be creative, adaptable, and focused on developing modern skills that create opportunities today rather than relying on outdated methods.

04What are the biggest challenges or opportunities in your field right now?

The biggest challenges in my field include homelessness, transportation barriers, justice involvement, and the need to develop skills as AI and technology continue to evolve. At the same time, there is a meaningful opportunity to help individuals overcome these barriers and achieve stable employment through the Career Center.

05What values are most important to you in your work and personal life?

The values most important to me are service, compassion, advocacy, trust, and personal growth. I believe supporting others means understanding the barriers they face and connecting them with the right resources, encouragement, and opportunities to achieve independence. I strive to bring these values into both my professional work and personal life.
