Ten minutes with Kim

01What do you attribute your success to?

I began my career in the medical field in 2011, building a strong foundation in administration, organization, and client service. After relocating from Colorado to Texas, I transitioned into bookkeeping within the construction industry and discovered a passion for helping business owners understand their finances. Today, I co-own a bookkeeping and tax business in Georgetown, Texas, where I help small businesses connect the dots between bookkeeping, tax planning, and long-term growth. As an Intuit ProAdvisor, I am committed to ongoing learning and empowering clients to make confident financial decisions.

02What’s the best career advice you’ve ever received?

The best career advice I received wasn't spoken - it came through action. When I was doing administrative work at a construction company, there was a controller who noticed I was really good with data entry and bookkeeping. He took me under his wing, and I worked there for about six years. He was very gracious in teaching me and encouraging me to pursue accounting and bookkeeping, and I honestly grew to love the field this way. That mentorship and his belief in my abilities changed the trajectory of my career and sparked my passion for this work.

03What advice would you give to young women entering your industry?

My advice is simple: do your research. There are so many times where people will see something on TikTok or see something on Reels that doesn't give the full picture. When people are starting out in this industry, they like to YouTube things, or Google things, or even TikTok things, and they don't get the full picture. That's when you start missing out on things or doing things incorrectly without even knowing it, and there are implications for that. So that's why I say really do your research and learn from the IRS or learn from a reputable source, so that way you're not putting your clients in jeopardy or costing them more money. I didn't take the traditional route - right out of high school I was pregnant and had a child, so college went on the back burner. I had to learn it the hard way through the school of hard knocks, going in and doing the work, then taking courses on my own. It's constantly learning for me, and I'm still pursuing additional certifications like my Enrolled Agent credential with the IRS. The key is to keep learning from credible sources and building your expertise properly.

04What are the biggest challenges or opportunities in your field right now?

One of the most valuable lessons I have learned throughout my career is that financial confidence can transform a business owner's outlook and opportunities. Too often, entrepreneurs feel overwhelmed by bookkeeping, taxes, and compliance requirements. My goal is to simplify those complexities and provide clients with the tools, knowledge, and support they need to focus on what they do best—running and growing their businesses.

05What values are most important to you in your work and personal life?

Right out of high school I was pregnant and had a child so I didn't take the traditional route and having a mentor at a previous company sparked my interests and I had to learn really the hard way to get all the tools that I needed to be successful in accounting and bookkeeping and in this industry. Professional development has remained a priority throughout my career. I am a certified Intuit ProAdvisor, which allows me to provide specialized support and expertise in accounting software and financial management systems. In addition, I am currently pursuing my Enrolled Agent (EA) credential, one of the highest designations awarded by the Internal Revenue Service for tax professionals. This ongoing education reflects my commitment to staying informed, expanding my expertise, and providing the highest level of service to my clients. Community engagement has always been an important part of my life. I believe successful businesses have a responsibility to contribute to the communities they serve, and I am proud to be involved with organizations that make a positive impact locally. Whether supporting charitable efforts, helping fellow entrepreneurs navigate financial challenges, or volunteering my time and expertise, I find tremendous fulfillment in serving others.
