Her Story

About Kim

Kimberly Olund is a Licensed Master Social Worker and therapist based in New York City, where she provides clinical services through Droste Mental Health Services. With experience spanning nonprofit organizations, community engagement, business operations, health and wellness, and technology, Kimberly brings a well-rounded perspective to her work with clients and communities. She provides talk therapy to teenagers, adults, and older adults, supporting clients through challenges ranging from grief and loss to more complex experiences rooted in trauma and difficult life circumstances. Her approach is grounded in compassion, collaboration, and helping individuals develop the insight and coping skills needed to navigate their lives with greater confidence.

Kimberly’s path to social work grew from an early interest in the connection between physical and emotional well-being. After earning her bachelor’s degree in Dietetics and Clinical Nutrition Services from Colorado State University, she became a Certified Health Coach and developed experience helping individuals work toward their health and wellness goals. She later earned her Master of Social Work in Clinical/Medical Social Work from Widener University while continuing to build her professional career. Before becoming a therapist, Kimberly worked in roles spanning sales, marketing, business operations, community management, volunteer coordination, and corporate engagement. Her experiences ultimately led her toward mission-driven nonprofit work, where she found an opportunity to combine her professional skills with her passion for service and meaningful community impact.

In addition to her clinical work, Kimberly is deeply involved in community engagement and organizational development. She supports partnerships, fundraising initiatives, events, and outreach efforts that help expand access to mental health services, and she has also contributed to volunteer and corporate engagement programs serving communities throughout New York City. Kimberly believes strongly in the power of teamwork and recognizes that meaningful change is rarely accomplished alone. She encourages aspiring social workers and other professionals to breathe through challenges, give themselves time to learn and grow, and remember that success does not require individual perfection. For Kimberly, the most rewarding work comes from bringing people together, creating opportunities for others, and contributing to a mission that makes a lasting difference.

Her Interview

Ten minutes with Kim

01What do you attribute your success to?

I attribute my success to perseverance, curiosity, and the ability to balance knowledge with empathy. My background in nutrition and social work has taught me to approach challenges from both a scientific and human perspective. Working full-time while earning my Master’s in Social Work strengthened my discipline and determination, while my experiences as a therapist, board member, and community leader have taught me the importance of collaboration, adaptability, and supporting others. I have learned that success is not about doing everything alone; it is about staying open to learning, building strong relationships, and continuing to show up with purpose.

02What advice would you give to young women entering your industry?

My advice is to breathe into the challenge and the curiosity, give yourself time, and remember that you are not doing this alone. Social work is a skills-based, human-centered profession, and no one is expected to know everything immediately or connect perfectly with every client. Stay curious, ask for support, learn from your experiences, and trust that your skills will continue to develop. Most importantly, remember that this is teamwork—not everything has to rest on your shoulders.
