Her Interview

Ten minutes with Kim

01What do you attribute your success to?

I think I've just had a passion for learning and development. I myself is a learner, so I enjoy learning new things constantly. I enjoy seeing that same passion in other people and try to nurture and develop that skill. The restaurant industry is very fast-paced and I enjoy being in an environment where it's chaotic at times but that's where I really thrive, making order out of chaos.

02What’s the best career advice you’ve ever received?

I think just lead by example, and you can do it yourself, so surround yourself with a team of people whose skills supplement yours.

03What advice would you give to young women entering your industry?

Lead by example. Respect is something that is earned and not demanded. Be a person of your word. It's okay to make mistakes, it's okay to not have the answer to everything, but when you don't know something, make it a point to find the answer. Always continue to work on your own development no matter what.

04What are the biggest challenges or opportunities in your field right now?

Making sure that you find time, you're clear when it comes to communication and follow-up because in quick casual things move so quickly. Being consistent with the team, having clear communication follow-up is very important. Being clear on your priorities, knowing what needs to get done on a daily, weekly, monthly basis.

05What values are most important to you in your work and personal life?

Respect is really important, having respect for yourself, having respect for your team. Culture is important because we spend so much time at work. Being in an environment where it's respectful and fun. You can help create that culture through your words and actions no matter your position.
